This movie has done somewhat well at the box office so far so I thought it would be great to watch it. How wrong I was. Was it any good? No, in fact it tried so hard to be. The punchlines just doesn't hit the right spot and even if it did they were fleeting right away. I just didn't find it funny. Its anthropomorphic world is not easy to get and its eccentricity became annoying and unfunny quirks. Junior and Tulip are too frenzied like they were high on something. I'm sure kids will love this movie and they're the target audience obviously but I'm afraid I didn't like it one bit.

The first time I saw The Blair Witch Project, it was quite an experience. It started the whole found footage movie genre off. A reboot or sequel would be inevitable, and here we are, today, with a sequel. Is Blair Witch a cash in, or did it bring something new to the table? Blair Witch borrows way too much from its older sibling, the story structure is rather similar and it does very little to differentiate itself. This time we follow Heather's brother, searching for his sister who disappeared in the Black Rock Woods during the first movie. Acting performances are okay, sometimes reaching the over the top levels plaguing many of today's horror flicks. The movie takes its time to build up the tension, which in the end is a bit of a mixed bag. It failed to grab me from the start, with okay performances and a story that doesn't captivate at all. Adding insult to injury are the horrible and unnecessary jump scares. Overall it's very disappointing. It fails to bring something new for the most part. Falling victim to a "been there done that" type of story and cheap jump scares, Blair Witch is unfortunately a forgettable effort.

The Magnificent Seven is an excellent movie for what it is trying to be - an old school western. With The Magnificent Seven remake, director Antoine Fuqua, clearly decides to keep with the style of the original 1960 movie, which was itself a remake of the Kurosawa classic, The Seven Samurai. After an incredibly tense opening, the remaining first third of the film is a slow buildup (perhaps a little too slow for some viewers), as the director introduces the main characters. However, once the full, namesake team is in place, and arrives to the town they have been hired to defend, the movie is a tense, action thrill ride for the remainder. For those who are fans of old style, shoot-em up westerns, or simply a fan of action movies with nasty villains and clever one-liners, this film will not disappoint.

Video game-based movies do not often turn out as good as they promise to be, and this always made me think that CGI is always the best way to bring video game stories to the big screen. Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is great example of how CGI does a brilliant job in capturing the world of Final Fantasy XV in the best way possible. The world is absolutely amazing, the CGI is top-notch and the story is very interesting. In this movie, they used an amazing cast, which truly helps makes this movie a great one and a delight to any animation or Final Fantasy fan. I really connected with the Nyx Ulric character, He was everything you want in an animated hero. If you are a major animation fan, you literally cannot go wrong with this movie. It is fantastic.

Third time's a charm in this latest movie starring the ditzy and still single Bridget Jones played as always by Renee Zellweger. It's a surprisingly funny, smart and adorable romantic comedy. Most of the old cast return except Hugh Grant and the addition of Emma Thompson as a doctor is inspiring. There are plenty of laugh out moments to be had such as the familiar round of Bridget's self-inflicted embarrassments. This is Renée Zellweger's movie though and in one of her first major roles in years she does not disappoint. Her Bridget is still scatty but is now also a mature woman capable of inspiring confidence (albeit mis-placed) in others. This movie is genuinely very good. Great script, excellent dialogue, fantastic performances done with real gusto and a lovely story.

Train To Busan can be summed up in four words: zombies on a train. But what director Sang-ho Yeon does with this simple premise is extremely impressive, giving the somewhat tired zombie genre another jolt of life. Using his confined location— a packed intercity train — to maximum effect, Yeon expertly ramps up the tension, the living gradually whittled down to a handful of passengers fighting for survival against the slavering undead. There are some great ideas present that really add to the excitement, such as the zombies getting confused whenever the train enters a tunnel and swarming in numbers to break through barriers. Surprisingly, the gore quotient is very low, but with such a rollicking pace, the lack of blood really isn't an issue. Perhaps a touch too long at almost two hours to be perfect, Train to Busan is nevertheless one of the better zombie movies to come out in recent years. Highly recommended.

This is a little seen comedy that deals with the army entertainers during the Second World War. In this case, on one of the Malaysian islands. Most of the men that entertained the troops there were drag queens and overall, all of them were very eccentric hams! This movie beautifully recaptures the music hall type of entertainment and light opera that was prevalent then. For that reason alone, this is a great movie from a nostalgic/historical perspective. It's also fun to see John Cleese showing his usual flair for perceptive wit, with his performance as a bumbling yet very human officer. The movie does have a dark edge to it though that may turn viewers who demand that a movie neatly fits into a category of comedy OR tragedy, off. But life is interesting because it is bitter as well as sweet, and this movie does live up to the honesty of its setting. In fact, it's bitter-sweetness and honesty is what makes it stand out, instead of just a fun little piece of fluff.

Sully is a true life movie about Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger. Sully and his First Officer Jeff Skiles had no choice but to land US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in January 2009. This was due to a dual engine failure after a bird strike. Despite all of this, Captain Sully and First Officer Skiles saved the lives of all 155 passengers on-board the aircraft. Sully is a sensational movie and Clint Eastwood has directed yet another masterpiece. The visual effects department has flawlessly depicted, how Captain Sully and First Officer Skiles made a successful emergency landing on the Hudson River. The fact that they shot several scenes at the actual locations, definitely solidifies the authenticity of the movie. Tom Hanks is perfect as Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger ably assisted by Aaron Eckhart as Jeff Skiles. One of the measures of a hero is that he or she acknowledges and inspires other heroes. "Sully" does all that and more. It is one of the best movies of the year.

This movie tells the story of a young boy, named Kubo, who must find a magical suit of armour, owned by his late father, in order to defeat the vengeful spirits of his grandfather and evil aunts. It's received almost unanimously positive reviews from critics, but that didn't stop it from bombing at the Box Office. I think it's an OK kids' flick, but it's also severely overrated. I love the movie's visuals and it's creative (and pretty imaginative) story; but the movie is also extremely slow-paced and uninvolving. I was bored almost the entire time I was watching it. The comedy isn't funny, and I just didn't care enough about the characters (or story) to stay with it although I did. Would I recommend it? Not for young kids, as a few scenes are violent, but for older people, if they want to go to a movie and nothing else seems like a good option.

Disney really are into something with their live action remakes. After the delightful Jungle book, it is time for Pete's Dragon to get the live action reboot. However, the original Jungle Book still holds well today while the 70's Pete's Dragon has not aged really well in comparison and was not considered a jewel crown in the Disney film catalogue to begin with so a remake was a good idea. This movie is refreshingly simple. It's about a lost little boy and his pet Dragon who get their little world turned upside down by the outside world. To make the dragon a little bit relatable to it's target audience of kids, the director has given him the mannerisms of a dog! It's works remarkably well. Oakes Fegley gives a very touching performance as Pete. Seriously it's easy to forget that the kid was mostly working with thin air yet he makes his bond with Elliot feels so real and strong. The other supporting actors are also very good. Bryce Dallas Howard has a real warmth to her that the director uses to great effect. She is very endearing as the kind Park Ranger and mother figure to Pete and has real chemistry with Fegley. Robert Redford as the narrator is wonderful as is Oona Lawrence as the little girl who guides Pete to the scary outside world. Despite a rather traumatic opening to the movie, this is a perfect family movie for everybody to enjoy and well worth checking out.

This is the story of Florence, a woman devoted to music and passionate about singing. Unfortunately she cannot sing. Money however seems to buy you what you want and Florence hires the best teacher and along with a pianist (played by Howard from The Big Bang Theory who is really good) strives for her dreams in a very single minded fashion. Meryl Streep is the most versatile and accomplished actress of her generation and as we have seen many times before can turn her hand to practically anything. Hugh Grant who usually bumbles his way through a movie came across as a tender and caring man who loved his wife deeply, and would do anything to prevent her from being hurt. This movie was a delight from start to finish, all the more poignant because it was based on a true story.

The story of 3 robbers named Rocky, Alex and Money who set their sights and future on robbing a blind man who has over $300,000 cash in his house. It's the perfect crime, but it doesn't quite go as well as they would have hoped! Director Fede Alvarez gives it his very best in this home invasion movie. Instead of wasting his time with nonsense and time wasting he gets straight to the point and as the movie goes on with the fast, roller coaster pace we get introduced to the characters bit by bit. And while we start to feel sorry for the Blind Man...we then realize he's on the same page, or just as bad as the robbers are. Stephen Lang steals the show as The Blind Man. This is living proof right here that not all blind men are saints. Lang gives us the most badass blind man you could have ever hoped for and he is really spooky and thrilling at playing him. There's nothing negative I can say about the movie, but Don't Breathe is a solid hour and a half treat that both horror and thriller fans will find amazing.

An intriguing Italian mystery movie as a child who disappeared during a Krampus festival turns up 5 years later but there are some who believe that the child is not who they think he is. I somewhat enjoyed this clever movie. It was a bit predictable in places but also threw me a few times. I was expecting a kind of supernatural movie but it turned out not to be the case. The setting is really good being set in a valley in the Dolomites. It has a Winter feel to it that adds to the tension. Once you get past the first 20 minutes which takes an age to set the plot, this movie will not let you go as you'll want to find out whether the child that has come back is human or something else altogether. Well worth taking a look.

In 1959 the world was introduced to Ben-Hur, a movie that today remains on many top movie lists. So of course Hollywood, would be ready for a remake in this golden age of well… remakes. With remakes sometimes comes a major plot overhaul, which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. In Timur Bekmambetov's production the story is pretty consistent with its 55 year-old predecessor. The backbone is essentially the same, but they have made a few tweaks such a making Messala, Judah's brother and using assassination as the means of starting war instead of a tile falling from the ceiling. Some of these additions I think make the drama more gripping, and others were a little more long-winded and overdramatic. At least most of these additions added to the plot and allowed us to get closer and more involved with Ben-Hur's tale. The centerpiece of the movie which is the chariot race is exciting and heart pounding. Jack Huston makes an extraordinary Ben-Hur of the modern age. He captures the noble side of the character well but I can't say he tops Charlton Heston's portrayal. He did a good job though. Overall, it's a good remake of an old classic. It's entertaining but if you're hoping for something that matches or even betters the 1959 version this doesn't even come close to it.
