A young boy Frankie is blackmailed by a crook who saw him unwittingly cause his friend’s death.
This is a strong piece of post war social realist drama from director J Lee Thompson. With its excellent location work around a London still ravaged by the Blitz, it superbly illustrates the hardships and the poverty of a nation who were one of the nations that ironically won the conflict. This victory came at a cost however, and this movie shows that world of rationing and ongoing devastation. The story is an exciting one and becomes a battle of wills between the decent upbringing of Frankie's parents and the crook's manipulation of the young boy. He steals for the crook including nicking a pineapple from none other than Sid James in a cameo appearance as a fruit seller. Andrew Ray is brilliant as Frankie, whose mix of naivety and vulnerability ramps up the torturous journey he undertakes across the movie as he learns the valuable lesson of how actions must have consequences. All in all, this is an enjoyable drama, due to the good performances, direction, script, mixed atmosphere and tension.

When Hamilton High’s Prom Queen of 1957, Mary Lou Maloney is killed by her jilted boyfriend, she comes back for revenge 30 years later. Bill Nordham is now the principle of Hamilton High and his son is about to attend the prom with Vicki Carpenter. However, she is possessed by Mary Lou Maloney after opening a trunk in the school’s basement. Now Bill must face the horror he left behind in 1957.
There's no need to watch the original to enjoy this horror movie as it has no connection to it at all. It's a cross between The Exorcist meets A Nightmare on Elm Street meets Degrassi High meets Carrie meets Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday meets Canadian horror wackiness!! The kills are great which includes death by Commodore 64 and a locker which has a girl hiding inside that is squashed. The cast is good and it has Michael Ironside playing the Principal who killed Mary Lou in the past. There's one final twist in the tale before the end credits roll which I wasn't expecting. I would say it's as entertaining as the first movie.

Phaebon had been thought to be a safe and controlled research facility until a distress signal calls for Commander Kreiger and his robot Tinpan. Together, they try to save the planet from a spreading virus and an odd and growing cocoon.
This is an atrocious remake of Forbidden World - a Roger Corman production from 1982 which wasn't too bad. Hands down it is one of the most God awful sci-fi movies I've ever had to endure. Right from the start you know it's going to be crap when footage from Battle Beyond The Stars is edited into the movie. You might as well call it an Alien rip-off with said alien on the loose and attacking people. Marc Singer as the hero must be a lousy shot as he fails to take the alien down on numerous occasions. I cannot give a single word of praise for this movie, it was rubbish in every aspect from the plot, acting and the alien itself. This movie should be consigned to the bin and left there to rot.

The quiet village of Bramley End is taken over by German troops posing as Royal Engineers. Their task is to disrupt England’s radar network in preparation for a full scale German invasion. Once the villagers discover the true identity of the troops, they do whatever they can to thwart the Nazis plans.
A superb wartime propaganda piece from Ealing and a classic war movie. It has a surprisingly solid cast featuring recognisable faces like Thora Hird and Patricia Hayes as the villagers primed to give the Nazis more than they had bargained for. There are a few moments of vengeance and bravery primed to make the home front audience cheer. At times though it's quite shockingly dark, playing out a wartime nightmare scenario with often chilling brutality and a high body count. The movie is quite strikingly well shot, with some startling and dynamic angles and uses of contrasting weather effects like the thick morning fog. It may be a dated and simplistic piece of wartime propaganda, but it holds up as a taut, hard-edged and well-made wartime thriller with efficient performances, a broad cast of characters and typically British sense of moral humour. Definitely one to watch.

When a woman begins to investigate her husband's mysterious death in a plane accident she discovers the involvement of a woman known simply as Diana.
A great little espionage B-movie thriller from The Butchers Film Service. The movie is well-plotted and genuinely suspenseful in parts, with a good twist in the tail. If the low budget is obvious in the production values, the acting is solid, especially Vincent Ball as the journalist who is more than he appears and Betty MacDowall in her specialist role as the grieving widow. I didn't expect much from this movie but it turned out to be quite entertaining.

A violent gang enlists the help of a hypnotherapist in an attempt to locate a painting which somehow vanished in the middle of a heist.
Danny Boyle's movie is interesting enough but is weighed down by being too convoluted. There is a solid thriller in here somewhere, but it's bogged down with so much unnecessary rubbish that it doesn't even know what it's trying to be anymore. There can only be so many twists and turns before you're in an entirely different city. I will say I enjoyed the direction, the blurring, colour and the soundtrack. The cast which includes James McAvoy, Vincent Cassell and Rosario Dawson are good. In the end it got way too confusing for me to know what was real and what was part of a dream. I still enjoyed the movie though.

Deathstalker helps Reena the Seer out of a few jams, and she solicits his help for a bigger task. She reveals that she is actually Princess Evie, but the evil sorcerer had her abducted and cloned in order to seize control of the kingdom. Together they travel to the evil sorcerer’s stronghold to restore the princess to her rightful position, encountering challenges along the way both from the sorcerer’s goons and the fierce Amazon women.
The original Deathstalker was way too serious for what it was but thankfully the sequel plays it entirely for laughs and is all the more better for it. This feels almost exactly like an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, if it had half the budget and was a bit sleazier. There are tons of ultra-corny one liners and silly nonsense, as well as some pretty decent fights and nudity. John Terlesky replaces Rick Hill as the title character. He is more charismatic and has a lot of fun playing the character. It seems the entire cast was having a ball in this production. An amusing sword and sandals tale that's worth watching.

High school student Aoi lives with her elder sister, Akane, after a tragic accident took their parents away 13 years ago. Because Akane has since been taking care of her single-handedly, Aoi wants to move to Tokyo after her graduation to relieve her sister’s burden and pursue a musical career, inspired by Akane’s ex-boyfriend Shinnosuke “Shinno” Kanamuro. Shinno was part of a band until he left for Tokyo to become a professional bassist after the sisters’ parents passed away. One afternoon, while Aoi practices her guitar in a guest house, she gets startled by the 18-year-old version of Shinno from 13 years ago! As if by coincidence, the current 31-year-old Shinno also returns to the town, but he has changed drastically. There are now two Shinno’s in existence, but why is the Shinno from the past present?
Knowing nothing about this anime movie going in, I felt pleasantly surprised by what I saw. The story revolves around four individuals as they confront their inner feelings toward each other and make decisions that will affect their lives from here on out. The characters are all likable and as music plays a big role in the movie that is also great. The score is atmospheric and soothing, pulling you into the melancholic world the movie creates, yet also soaring and grand, perfectly placed to warm even the most blackened of hearts. The animation is fantastic - beautiful and lushly detailed and I'm not sure if the countryside location is based around a real place in Japan but I'd sure love to visit the picturesque area. Overall, a very well made animated movie that is packed with magnificent dialogue, great character work and a good storyline about trying to correct past mistakes.

Somebody with very little Christmas spirit is killing anyone in a Santa suit one London holiday season, and Scotland Yard has to stop him before he makes his exploits an annual tradition.
A very British entry into the 1980's slasher cannon. It lacks the perkiness of most of its American cousins and the style of the Italian giallo, the movie is nevertheless more aligned to the giallo in terms of structure and plot, police procedural action and a whodunit angle with numerous characters. There are numerous nasty kills such as a spear through the throat, a cleaver to the face and an unfortunate man gets his knob cut off by a razor! The acting is pretty dire all round. A few off the wall moments keep it fairly enjoyable and worth a look for fans of sleazy, cult, obscure trash.

An author who was sent to the town Drakho, because of a nervous breakdown, gets wound up in a mystery revolving around demons and werewolves. She starts seeing ghosts and dismisses them as her own imagination, but when they turn out to be real she becomes suspicious of the odd town and of its past.
This horror could have been good (basically a rehash of the first movie) but fails due to the lack of gore that only appears 40 mins in and a cool werewolf transformation scene in the final 10 mins with human flesh melting down to the bones. The plot develops slowly, the production is limited, and the performances are dodgy. By the time the werewolves arrive, the movie's lackluster narrative and flat execution have driven the viewer's attention elsewhere. It may be an interesting concept, echoing plot beats from the original movie, but going nowhere with that is an issue. Though parts of the movie are competent and capable, most of it is a slog to get through.

A New York ex-cop and his rebellious teenage daughter relocate to a small Colorado town where numerous cattle mutilations are taking place. He helps the female Sheriff investigate what might be behind the grisly killings.
This great movie is about the phenomenon of cattle mutilations, strange attacks on American livestock which were popularly attributed to UFO's and aliens. It's quite an underrated conspiracy horror thriller and in the first half of the movie you really do think that craft from outer space might be responsible for the mutilations but then the truth comes out in what is hiding inside an abandoned missile silo. The excellent, driving electronica soundtrack adds no end to the sense of unease. Robert Urich makes for a great lead alongside the female Sheriff played by JoBeth Williams. An entertaining and tense thriller with a great score and a pretty good cast. Worth checking out if you want to a UFO conspiracy story that's literally down to Earth.

Tim is a successful ambitious young financier working for a London Merchant bank, but even his happy-go-lucky attitude is severely jolted when he is sent to Birmingham instead of his promised New York for his posting! But comedy reigns when the enterprising bank manager helps an unsuccessful Birmingham restaurant compete with its rivals by introducing a new fast food – the Brumburger!
This would mark the last movie that Cliff Richard would appear in and although far from being his best movie it's not as bad as some would like to say it is. The script is written to an okay standard by Christopher Penfold. Cliff gives a reasonable performance in his role as Tim Matthews but I found the character so unlikable at first. The songs he performs are completely forgettable as well. Debbie Watling (best known as the 2nd Doctor's assistant Victoria) is okay in her role as Sarah - the woman who Tim falls in love with. Hugh Griffith, George Cole and Anthony Andrews don’t offer much in their respective parts. Overall, this is a just a fair British musical comedy.

A deadly gang controls a small town and murder Kung Fu masters in rigged fights. A traveller wanders into town and squares off against a crooked fortune teller who’s in cahoots with a sexy female pickpocket. Eventually, the trio decides to put their differences aside to take on the nefarious den of ruffians especially after the traveller is badly injured by them.
It's your standard kung fu revenge movie with some good fights. The most memorable fight happens right away in the opening scene. That’s when the bad guys show off their “Golden Chicken” style. In between shots of them punching and kicking, we see close-ups of a clucking chicken. This scene is the comedic highlight of the movie. Unfortunately, the rest of the intentional humour fails to generate any laughs. There's a brief training montage before the final showdown between the traveller and the thugs that nearly killed him. This movie is also called Marvellous Stunts of Kung Fu in some places which is an odd title as there are no stunts in this movie or it's mistakenly called that and maybe Marvellous Stances was the title it should be? Anyhow, it's a good martial arts movie to watch.
