Three teenage girls make a pact and decide to lose their virginity on prom night but when their parents find out they set out to stop this from happening. This is a really good and funny raunchy comedy. It's like American Pie for the millennium generation. The laughs come from the antics of the well-meaning, but clueless parents, the ridiculous situations they get themselves into, and sexual and gross-out humour involving the girls' quest and their parents' anti-quest. Wrestler John Cena is probably the funniest out of all the adults. Even the young teens are great in their roles. Every single member of the lead cast gets a chance to shine. I really enjoyed Blockers as it is consistently funny with many laugh out loud moments. As a comedy it more than delivered so go check it out!

A ridiculous movie based on a video game I played years ago. A deadly man made pathogen that crashes to Earth after the ISS blows up infects 3 animals. They grow to super size and develop massive strength before heading to Chicago and destroying the downtown area. The story doesn't feel like it's been thought out properly - very lazily written. It's just an excuse for scenes of destruction then again that's how the video game played out! To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this movie anyway. I usually like Dwayne Johnson movies and even though he's his usual charming self here it's definitely not one of his best work. I do like the chemistry though between Johnson's character and George the Gorilla. The cliche one liners and the OTT action scenes didn't help in my low opinion of this movie. All in all, it's just a mindless and drab popcorn flick which I'm sure the kids will enjoy. I don't think I'd watch it again.

After a gap of 14 years, the Incredibles are back. The sequel doesn't quite reach the lofty standard of the original, which would have been nearly impossible. What it does improve on is the visuals which are a treat for the eyes. The lighting, the colour and the movement are all immaculate. The story is fine but the weakest aspect of the movie is the villain. The villain is obvious and a bit predictable but despite this it shouldn't spoil your overall enjoyment of the movie. In the end it's a good movie but it isn't special. I'm not convinced Disney should have made this movie but I guess money talks.

Set in a deprived area of Liverpool, this movie is about a detective transferred to the Juvenile Liaison Dept to try and stop kids from progressing into becoming criminals once they reach adulthood. His 1st case involves a pair of Irish twins who have been stealing. He meets and falls in love with their elder sister Cathy. The twins' elder brother Johnny is the leader of a gang of hoodlums running riot in the streets. He is also responsible for arson attacks in the city and when the net starts to close after a botched arson attack on a hotel, Johnny barricades himself in a primary school classroom armed with a machine gun and a class full of kids as hostages.
This gritty drama has a fantastic angry performance from a young David McCallum as the mixed up teen Johnny. The plot could have done without the romantic part between the detective and the elder sister. What's odd is even though the movie is set in Liverpool, there is no Scouse accent heard at all between the characters! The story tries to say that rock n roll has a disruptive influence on the nation's youth making them become unruly and that the squalid environment of inner-city estates of major cities is a breeding ground for juvenile delinquency. The most memorable part of the movie is the climatic classroom scene where a bunch of terrified school children are held hostage by Johnny. There's a very good cast which includes Peter Cushing and a young Freddie Starr who would become a popular comedian in the 70's and 80's. Overall, this is a brilliant movie which is worth watching.

After being thrown out of a London jazz club for being rowdy, 4 tearaway young men break into a magicians shop to terrorise the owner before he extracts his own brand of revenge magic!
This very rare movie has a good and effective story which holds your attention. Initially an X certificate at the time of release, now it's quite tame to watch. It resembles an episode of Tales Of The Unexpected! This chiller stars Warren Mitchell, a year before hitting the big time as Alf Garnett in Till Death Us Do Part. Here he plays Emilio Dinelli, an Italian magician who is tied up to a chair in his own shop and forced to watch as the hoodlums muck about with his props and inevitably breaking one of them which sets the story up for his revenge. A young John Challis of Only Fools And Horses fame appears as one of the 4 thugs. There's a good climax to the movie as Dinelli unleashes what appears to be supernatural forces on the young men and the great twist in the last scene which shows the fate of what has happened to 3 of them. Although this movie isn't that scary, if you want to watch an interesting story give it a whirl.

An excellent coming of age movie by Hirokazu Koreeda. Two brothers are living apart from each other due to the separation of their parents. The eldest brother Koichi wants the family to be back together again. One day, Koichi overhears that the energy released by two bullet trains passing by each other would grant wishes. Together with his 2 best friends and his younger brother and his friends who is planning to meet up with him, they decide to travel together to the point where the 2 trains intersect with each other to grant their wishes.
What a fabulous movie this is with awesome acting from the young cast. Koreeda manages to weave a simple and sensitive tale of loss of innocence of children that need to face reality instead of immature and naive dreams. The two main child leads are brothers in real life and the director squeezes out wonderfully naturalistic performances from the pair. The observation of people in real life, and attention to detail is extraordinary. Loved the cinematography as well. I Wish is a charming and lighthearted movie that is well worth watching. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Geraldine Page is superb as the mad woman Claire Marrable who is left penniless after her husband's death. She moves to the Arizona desert where she employs a steady stream of old lonely housekeepers with no family so she can murder them for their savings and then dump their bodies underneath her garden of trees. Enter Alice who goes undercover as a housekeeper to find out what happened to her friend who has mysteriously disappeared after working for Mrs Marrable.
The movie works not so much because the story (an eerie one, to be sure) is so original, but because the cat-and-mouse aspect of the story which has Geraldine Page and Ruth Gordon as adversaries in a household fraught with suspicion (of murder), is what hooks the most interest in this vastly entertaining little shocker. The suspense builds slowly as the viewer comes to realise just how manipulative and cunning Mrs Marrable really is. There's no blood and guts in the movie because it doesn't need it to be honest, it works perfectly well without the gore. This movie is definitely worth seeking out.

This was David Niven's last movie before his death. Pinky Green is an American criminal released from prison in London and determined to go on the straight and narrow by getting a job as an electrician in a bank of all places. Unfortunately the boss of a gang of hoodlums named Ivan sees this as an opportunity to rob the place and forces Pinky to help him out.
This movie is an almost forgotten gem from 1979 which although in essence a comedy it was based on one of the UK's biggest ever bank heists. It was directed by Gerald Thomas, best known for the Carry On movies. It has an engaging story and it moves along at a good pace. I wish the movie didn't have a stupid Benny Hill like music throughout. I'd never heard of Richard Jordan before but he does well in the leading role of Pinky Green. David Niven as always is fabulous and plays the role with his usual charm. Elke Sommers and 70's hearthrob Oliver Tobias provide supporting roles to the pair. For a bank heist movie, there is no violence, blood or even a car chase through the streets of London. This movie just gives you a well written story that is well acted, well directed and well photographed! I wasn't expecting much from this movie but I really enjoyed it.

A simply fantastic musical with a tremendous feel-good factor and a soundtrack to die for with songs that are very catchy and stay in your head. The story is loosely based on the life of P.T Barnum who was a showman that loved entertaining people. Everything from the incredible toe-tapping music, awesome choreography to the dream filled storyline was great. I was totally immersed in it all. Hugh Jackman is perfect in the leading role of Barnum with a supporting cast that compliments him nicely. This movie is an uplifting, joyous experience that we all need now and again in our lives. Take a look at it. Guaranteed to make you smile by the end. Recommended.

A very well made Japanese action movie in which an ex-specialist soldier Toshiro is targeted by one of his old colleagues who sends hoards of assassins to eliminate him. Toshiro runs a small convenience store with his adopted daughter Sachi but when she is kidnapped, Toshiro realises he cannot run anymore but has to take on his old friend in order to finish things off.
The story as such isn't that important as it's the close combat knife action sequences that takes centre stage in this movie. Most of these fights take on an almost balletic display. There is one particular 30 minute segment where Toshiro and 2 accomplices are making their way up a tree ridden hill facing a seemingly innumerable amount of enemies which will leave you breathless. Tak Sakaguchi is incredible as Toshiro and his distinctive pre-fight shoulder movements lets the viewer know the enemy is in for a lot of pain and suffering. If you want a movie with a clear cohesive plot and interesting dialogue then this won't be for you but if you're after action and blood in bucketloads then you'll love it.

A crime story that starts out well enough but quickly becomes rather dull. The setup is great - a group of criminals steal bagfuls of old used money from the mail train and all this is done without any dialogue for the first 15 to 20 mins. The group is then shown celebrating their heist and living it up in an unknown foreign beach resort. The movie then goes backwards in time to how they came to plan for the robbery and the various setbacks that occur before they succeed. Most of the movie takes place in one train carriage with a lot of time wasting to fill the story out. There isn't anything in the way of thrills and peril that takes place. The cast led by American actor Lee Patterson is fine though none of them stand out in any way. As the movie wore on, my interested in the story waned and I was glad when it ended. A bit of a wasted opportunity I thought and this movie should have been a lot more exciting.
