An ex-convict fresh out of jail is the prime suspect when a series of blonde women are murdered always during a full moon. This is a nice little B picture from prolific thriller director Montgomery Tully. It follows the police investigation for the murders and the stacks are high against George Mallon, the ex-con. Everything points to him being the murderer but the police use a blonde female sergeant as bait to find out if Mallon really is the killer. All of the murders take place off-screen. One of the movie's mistakes is that none of the characters are likable even those of the side of the law. Mallon's attitude puts you right off him and the police are portrayed as bullies. It's only when Susan Travers as the female police sergeant enters the fray that there's somebody you can warm up to. A short running time prevents the story from dragging so this title is entertaining even if it never hits the heights it should.

After being rejected by a boy at school that she's flat chested, a girl Masako adopts a super hero secret identity and attacks well endowed girls at her school in order to make silicone moulds of their breasts and parade them around town if they don't stop seducing boys at school!!
This is a fairly funny Japanese super hero parody and not at all that sleazy. It's camp and light-hearted. It starts out pretty well but it soon turns somewhat boring as Masako's secret identity is found out by a rival and she's blackmailed to join the school athletic track team to run against a big breasted girl. Her prize if she wins the race is she can make moulds of all the well endowed girls in the team. Yes, there's even a classic 80's style training montage of Masako starting out weak and becoming stronger and stronger over a collection of clips with cheesy music playing in the background. It's a shame the movie fell apart after an entertaining first half which had me laughing as some of the dialogue is funny. No idea why it turned into a moral tale about a person working hard to reach their goal. All in all, this isn't a total sleaze fest but it does have some comedy and a general perverted nature to it.

Hilarious sequel to Dino De Laurentiis 1976 remake. It's hard to say whether this was meant to be a tongue in cheek movie or one to take seriously! Kong having survived his so-called death is given a new artificial heart and fresh blood after a giant female ape is captured on Skull Island. When Kong senses her nearby he breaks free from his chains and goes in search of the female. The US Army is ordered to capture them by whatever means necessary.
This is definitely in the category of one of those movies that's bad through and through. The script and the dialogue is terrible. The scenes in which Kong and his lady look at one another lovingly and hug each other are so funny. The entire concept of some scenes is bizarre, daft and just complete total and utter nonsense while at times it becomes embarrassing to watch. You could say the movie is fairly entertaining for all the wrong reasons! Director John Guillermin who also made the 1976 movie botched up big time with this one as it is devoid of any excitement, scares, action or tension. I felt sorry for Linda Hamilton who came from starring in The Terminator to this turkey. By all means take a look at this movie and have a damn good laugh at it. An absolute treat for bad film fans!

Perhaps I made a mistake in not watching the drama or the first movie before seeing this but I didn't think it was that great. If you're a fan of violent gangs fighting against each other for control of territory you might enjoy this movie but I thought it was boring. The Crows Zero trilogy which is somewhat similar to this movie was a lot more fun to watch and had better and interesting characters. There is hardly any character development in the storyline. The whole High & Low franchise will interest EXILE Tribe fans as many members of the popular music group have high profile roles. Some of the action scenes in this movie are pretty decent such as the USB van/car chase but on the whole the fighting choreography isn't good. After a while seeing another fight kicking off got a bit dull. It's a very repetitive movie and it goes on for too long at 2 hours.

Abused children by their parents vanish only to come back later singing a strange song. Three days later the child's abuser is usually found dead. More cases like this start to appear. Newspaper reporter Shunya investigates and finds out about Tommy's Curse relating to a circus a long time ago. Shunya's girlfriend Naomi who was herself abused by her mother as a child starts seeing ghostly dead children and a Pied Piper figure that may be behind the murders.
Takashi Shimizu is best known for creating the Ju-On franchise in Japan but everything he's done after those movies hasn't been that good. Sadly this movie isn't going to enhance his reputation either. It's a poor horror movie with the same creepy kids story that Japanese cinema has churned out before in the last 10 years or so. The Pied Piper villain is weak and the ghostly children aren't that scary. It's like the story was just going through the motions and it feels rushed. Arioka Daiki from the boy band Hey! Say! JUMP! and Mugi Kadowaki are fine as the leads. I'm sure with a better script and a more memorable villain this movie might have worked but as it is it's not worth bothering with.

A story about a woman Mari who leaves her job in Tokyo to move back home to a small seaside town to open a shaved ice cafe with natural ingredients used as a syrup topping. She thinks that there will be plenty of customers despite the reservations of her ex-boyfriend Osumu who points out that the town has been dying for many years with businesses closing down. Despite this, the cafe opens and with a limited menu (only 2 flavours), Mari finds out the harsh reality of running a business but with the help of Hajime, the daughter of her mother's friend who is reflecting on her own troubles, both women try their best to adapt and change to better their lives. Don't come into this movie expecting major drama. This is a slow and thoughtful movie with brilliant acting from the small cast. Superb and beautiful photography of the town of Toi on the Izu Peninsula. I found this an interesting movie about changes that take place is small towns through the eyes of a naive woman who looks at the past with rose tinted eyes.

Another pointless Hollywood remake and this time it's the turn of Joel Schumacher's 1990 horror movie about medical students who attempt to find out what lies beyond death by conducting clandestine experiments that produce near-death experiences. This movie falls flat on it's face with a weaker cast than the original even though one of them in Kiefer Sutherland has a small role (he doesn't play the same character as before). James Norton is badly miscast. He's in his 30's and has to act like a stupid cocky 20 year old. In terms of the story, it's pretty much a re-hash of the same story with a few minor tweaks added to the screenplay to update it for the current generation. There are a couple of decent tense moments but it's not a movie I'd recommend to friends. Stick to the original even if that's flawed as well.

At a meeting to settle a dispute at his plough factory, the owner foolishly proclaims that if his staff could do any better they are welcome to try. To his surprise two of his workers take him up on the offer. After initial difficulties with co-workers and financiers they start to make progress. After a major order falls through their old boss cannot bear to see them fail and comes back to use his overseas contacts to save the business.
This is an interesting working class drama and captures a snapshot of long-forgotten life over half a century ago. A stirring tale of British pluck and the moral that in those hard times of post-war austerity, everybody had to do their bit and muck in together. Bernard Miles who has a role in this movie had his hands full as he also wrote, directed and produced it. This is also worth watching for early performances from Patrick Troughton, Hattie Jacques, and Peter Jones. In the end, this is a great and realistic portrayal of what attitudes and practices of working life was like in the UK during the early 50's.

Emergency Ward 10 was Britain's first medical TV drama and proved to be a huge ratings winner during it's 10 year run from 1957-67. This spin-off movie was released 2 years after it began. The story revolves around a new registrar at Oxbridge General Hospital that comes there after a stay in America with a new idea in a heart/lung machine that could revolutionise surgery. He also has to win over his colleagues who don't really trust the new machine especially when they lose a patient after using it during surgery. A young 7 year old boy has a hole in his heart and they want to use the new machine on him but there are doubts from his parents and some of the hospital staff.
There isn't a lot of high drama in this movie, it's all gentle sedate stuff. It's hard to see from watching this movie why the TV drama was such a hit but don't judge a book by it's cover. Once you see some of the episodes from the TV series you'll understand why it became one of the country's most beloved dramas. It's interesting to see how much has changed in our nation's hospitals from this movie. Kids would never share a ward with adults these days and pregnant women would never be x-rayed! The regular cast are fine and there is even a guest appearance from a young Joan Sims as a woman expecting 4 babies!! I thought it was an interesting time piece on how well hospitals were run in the past with no cutbacks that sadly take place now.

An anime movie revolving around the daughter of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai who drew the famous Great Wave painting. It's basically a slice of life story as the viewer follows O-Ei and the fraught relationship she has with her father and the love she has for her blind little half-sister O-Nao. There's no real plot to the movie at all and certainly no character development because nothing much is known about O-Ei's life apart from her failed marriage. The animation is different from other anime movies I've watched and makes a nice change. It isn't an anime for children to watch either as erotic drawings and a bedroom scene are shown. I wouldn't say this movie held my interest that much but it made 90 mins pass quickly. You do learn something about how life was in Edo before the fall of the samurai but in the end the story didn't do that much for me.

A good romantic comedy centering on the sport of table tennis. Quitting table tennis as a child because of her strict mother, Tamako as an adult is a low level office worker with no love life but that soon changes when the company's table tennis star starts dating her. When she discovers he's cheating on her with his mixed doubles partner, Tamako packs her job in and moves back to her hometown in the country where she inevitably starts going to the small table tennis club there and soon pairs up with a man Hagiwara who is trying to get over an episode in his life.
I've been a fan of Yui Aragaki since she was in her teens and in this movie she's at her beautiful and charming best. The story as such is predictable at best as you know that Tamako and Hagiwara will hook up at some point and also come up against Tamako's ex and his girlfriend in a table tennis match. The movie has many likable characters that you root for. The movie is all about going back to your roots to heal old wounds and rediscovering a passion for something you might have hated in the past. Yui Aragaki and Eita are great as the leads who get off to a bad start after an incident on a train. You can see the chemistry the two have onscreen. The movie builds up to the table tennis showdown match and I can't say I was surprised with how that turned out. All in all even though the story is predictable, I found it warm and uplifting as well and I enjoyed it.

This is the live action adaptation of the popular manga directed by Yuichi Fukuda who also helmed the Gintama movie. Unlike that movie which was really funny and well made, this one isn't that good. It's ridiculously OTT, full of weird characters and whilst there are many pop culture references to other Japanese manga/anime series dotted around the movie, the pacing of the story is poor and some of the cast overact a bit too much. The main person doing this with her facial expressions is Kanna Hashimoto who plays Saiki's secret admirer Kokomi. I usually like Kanna's acting and whilst she may look all cute in this movie it's not enough to save her weak performance. The movie isn't a total disaster because I did laugh several times. Overall though I wouldn't watch it again.

It's The Towering Inferno meets Die Hard! This is just a pure adrenaline rush of a movie. Dwayne Johnson is a former FBI agent turned security adviser who must rescue his family from the tallest building in the world in Hong Kong after terrorists take it over and set it on fire. This movie doesn't do anything new and I didn't really care if it copied other movies - all that mattered to me was the story of a man battling against the bad guys and the odds in trying to save his family and this movie does it well. You'll be entertained by the OTT thrills and perils faced by Johnson as he dangles several times from a burning skyscraper. The acting here is solid from all cast members, even the child actors. Overall, I've for sure seen better, more enjoyable action movies, but nonetheless, I had a really good time with Skyscraper.

I'd read so many negative reviews about this movie so I wasn't expecting much but what a pleasant surprise I got. Sure, the plot about a middle aged person going to college and getting down with the young has been done before but it was still a fun movie with a great performance by Melissa McCarthy. What's good about this comedy is even though it's a typical college frat house affair there's hardly any swearing and no nudity. It does try too hard at times to get a laugh though but I definitely thought it was funny. Apart from McCarthy, the young female cast led by Molly Gordon was pretty good. Don't listen to the negativity surrounding this movie. If you're after a fun movie that will make you smile go check it out.
