This is supposed to be a so-called masterpiece by French director Jean-Luc Godard but all I saw was an over-rated art house movie. It's a low budget black and white movie about a woman whose promiscuity sees her descend into prostitution, and I'm afraid it's a movie which left me cold. The characters are subdued and bored and thus come across as dull in themselves. I didn't care or feel sympathy for any of them. The movie is presented in 12 vignettes but they're all very similar and the viewer doesn't really learn or understand much from watching. Thankfully it finished after 80 mins to put me out of my misery.

A very good dramatisation of the real life Iranian Embassy siege and the subsequent storming by SAS forces that took place in London over 6 days during the early part of May 1980. The movie wastes no time and begins with the siege. It maintains tension and urgency throughout the movie, and time flies quickly. It is not easy to be the negotiator in this intense and fragile situation, and Mark Strong portrays the tough challenges very well. The movie is not a fast paced thriller nor was it intended to be. It is an honest depiction of what happened during those harrowing six days and how well the planning and execution of the SAS team handled the rescue of 24 of the 26 hostages. A very well acted and worthwhile movie that does not overdo or glorify this terrible event and illustrates excellent military type tactics still used today in similar situations.

Writer/director Michael Reeves' debut movie is a below average horror about a 300 year old witch whose body lies at a bottom of a lake in Romania that is resurrected after an accident plunges a car into the lake. The make-up for the witch's hideous face is well made - like a decaying corpse. It's a shame that Scream Queen Barbara Steele is only in the movie for the first 20 or so mins and then comes back for the final scene. Some of the acting by the cast is terrible. Future Saint actor Ian Oglivy gives a decent performance as the man out looking for his wife after her body disappears from the car accident they were in. Although the movie tries hard to be similar to Hammer horrors I don't think it succeeds. The plot can be dull at times and there's hardly any suspense or eeriness. This will never be a must-see for horror or Barbara Steele fans. Worth seeing as a curiosity, otherwise don't bother.

David Niven plays Major Bradbury, an English gentleman who gets a job in a troubled Far East country tutoring a young and impressionable Japanese boy about western history as his family will soon be moving to London because his father is a Japanese ambassador. Bradbury's tall tales makes an impression on the young lad who looks up to his tutor even though they are all lies. One day a group of terrorists kidnap the boy and Bradbury and lock them up in a hut high up in the mountains. They demand a ransom from the ambassador for his son or he'll die.
This is a good adventure movie for the whole family with strong performances from Niven and Japanese legend Toshiro Mifune. The story of a dreamer facing the consequences of his lying is entertaining and trying to make amends with one last act of heroism, full of pathos and regret. The moral of the tale is don't pretend to be something you're not or it might bite you in the arse one day! Overall, Paper Tiger is a gripping story, alternately funny, tense and moving, but above all it is a thoroughly warm-hearted and tenderly told tale of redemption. A nice movie to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

This is the prequel to 2014's Annabelle and it tells the origin story of the possessed doll Annabelle. I wasn't a big fan of the first movie but I thought I'd give this a go anyway. I wish I hadn't as it was so dull and boring! It's about a bunch of female orphans and a nun that stay in a creepy house where the owner's daughter tragically lost her life after being hit by a car 12 years earlier. Perhaps I've just seen one too many cliched supernatural horror flicks and this movie just seemed to be one of them. It didn't do anything for me and I couldn't wait for it to finish. The only good thing I can say is it was well made and it does tie-in with the first movie. It's not a horrible movie but it is forgettable and adds nothing new to the horror genre.

Steven Soderbergh returns with another heist movie. Although it lacks the charm of the Oceans trilogy, it is still a good movie to watch. It's about 2 brothers wanting to pull of a heist during a NASCAR driving race and recruiting a criminal serving time inside a jail and his 2 younger dim-witted siblings. The movie is well put together with a good script. The cast is excellent with Channing Tatum and Adam Driver as the 2 brothers but it's probably Daniel Craig who stands out among the cast with his bleached blonde hair as explosives expert Joe Bang. He steals every scene he's in and it looked like he'd been let loose and was enjoying himself. He does a very convincing Southern accent as well. Good for him and nice to see him play a semi-comedic role. I'm sure those that loved the Oceans trilogy will like this movie. Whilst it doesn't have the brilliant twists and turns of those movies, it is an entertaining ride from start to finish.

A quite remarkable British bank heist movie set in Nice, France. An ex-military officer recruits a team of his former colleagues to rob the vaults of a wealthy bank to aid his nationalistic right wing cause. Using the city's sewer network, they burrow their way inside the bank and empty it of $15 million dollars.
I really enjoyed this movie from the meticulous and flawless way the team work out how to get inside the bank vault right through to their getaway. The story is based on a real life heist that took place. A young Ian McShane is brilliant as the charismatic leader and brains of the operation. He is ably supported by Warren Clarke and Stephen Greif amongst others. The director Francis Megahy would later team up once more with McShane for a couple of Lovejoy episodes. Even when things do go sour for the robbers after the heist, there is still a couple more twist and turns to finish the movie on a high. This little known movie definitely deserves to be seen more. It's a wonderful caper movie.

A Muslim journalist named Sam infiltrates a jihadist cell that is planning a terrorist attack in the suburbs of Paris.
This is a tense French thriller that gives the viewer an idea inside the mindset of a small terrorist cell. I think you'll know from the start that at some point in the movie Sam will get discovered by his brothers in the group that he's a traitor to their cause. It's rather predictable in that respect. One or two get suspicious of his behaviour. The last 20 mins is gripping and exciting as Driss, the mad leader of the cell changes the target location where their bomb will go off to somewhere where Sam's young son is attending. Good acting by the French cast. I'm not sure if this movie was actually shown in French cinemas as it was unfortunately released in between two of the atrocious terror attacks in Paris.

The storyline of this movie revolves around actual events that took place in the Bridgend area of South Wales that had a high suicide rate among teenagers from 2007-2012 and no explanation was given for why this was happening as the teens killed themselves without giving one. The movie portrays the reckless life of teenagers and uses the clichรฉs that are already well known in adolescence representations: parties ruled by alcohol, cigarette, riots and dips in the lake, in a quest for freedom, to experience feelings without worrying about the consequences of your own acts. Despite having an efficient cast which includes Hannah Murray of Game of Thrones fame, the script is rather weak and it doesn't develop the characters at all. Even by the end of the movie, the viewer is no clearer in knowing why the teenagers killed themselves. No future perhaps? Tired of living in such a deprived and depressing area? Who knows.

This will go down in history as being one of the worst British movies ever made! A movie that has absolutely nothing really to recommend it. It's a musical re-working of the Romeo and Juliet storyline, with a unique sci-fi twist. An alien is sent to a futuristic Earth (which looks remarkably like the 1960s) where mankind is divided into two warring countries (Beatland and Ballad Isle). His goal is to bring the two countries together through music and romance. So who are these Gonks then? A egg shaped toy that became popular in the UK for a short while in the 60's. They only have a very minor role in the movie. I'm still not sure what possessed comedy greats in Kenneth Connor, Frank Thornton and Terry Scott to take part in this terrible movie. I couldn't wait for it to finish - that's how shit it was. I wish I could rewind time back so that I could have watched something better instead.

The 4th movie featuring Francis the talking mule is probably one of the best in the series as Francis and Peter arrive in NYC. Peter gets a job in a newspaper company and sets his sights on being a reporter. With Francis getting all the big scoops for him, Peter's dreams on being a reporter comes true but it also turns out to be his biggest nightmare when he is implicated for a murder he didn't do.
These movies starring Francis gets better and better with each outing and this one is definitely the funniest. Chill Wills once more provides the mule with his voice and the interaction between Francis and Peter is brilliant. I laughed as Peter tries to explain that it's the mule that gets him his top stories and each time he's carted away to the psychiatrists as a mad man!! Francis thankfully gets more screentime than the other previous entries in the series. I have no idea how the filmmakers managed to get the mule to move his mouth in time with the vocals. Pretty impressive I've gotta say. As ridiculous the premise of a talking mule is to viewers, definitely give this movie a try and I'm sure it'll put a smile on your face.

This is the incredible story of the surprise package of the Euro 2016 football tournament. Wales had never been in a major championship since 1958 and their brilliant winning streak in the qualifying campaign ensured they would go to France and play with the big boys. Nobody expected them to do well but what they did during the tournament made them heroes back home in Wales. The story in this documentary starts back in the dark days of 2011/12 when the sudden death of Wales' manager Gary Speed stunned the nation. Results then went against them and they plummeted down to 117th in the FIFA rankings. During the Euro qualifiers something seemed to click for the players and they went on an amazing run. The rest as they say is history. There are interviews with most of the players and the management with Wales as they look back on each game in the tournament and it also shows the magnificent support by the Welsh fans who played their part in lifting the team into achieving what they did. If you're a football fan you will love this story of the underdog doing well.
