A drug-induced slice of sci-fi craziness, based on a novel by popular fantasy writer Michael Moorcock. I was hoping to like this, but the sad truth is that it turns out to be a completely unconvincing dud of a movie, far too light-hearted and campy to succeed. Jon Finch is Jerry Cornelius tasked with hunting down a secret microfilm in a world on the edge of the apocalypse. Various oddball supporting characters turn up to either help or hinder him. I don't mind a bit of camp but this movie goes way over the top and as a result is simply stupid.

This is a b-movie British spy drama filmed in Malta to give it an exotic Mediterranean flavour. The story sees espionage taking place when an agent is shipped in to uncover a drug smuggling ring involving the transport of heroin shipments, and our man's job is to find out who's doing it and stop them in their tracks.
What sounds like it should be a light and breezy affair is in fact plodding and unworkable, suffering from wooden male leads and such a slow pace. There is some action at times to keep you from falling asleep but the best thing about the movie is the beautiful women such as the sexy Patsy Anne Noble and Carron Gardner. A shame it didn't turn out as good as I would have hoped.

Clever psycho-sexual drama about a wounded Union soldier who seeks refuge in an isolated Confederate school for young women during the Civil War. Slowly, Eastwood begins to seduce some of the girls, until the tables are turned and he becomes the pursued in an unsettling, gothic-toned finale. Never has a movie been so deliciously erotic yet disturbingly macabre at the same time. It's another example of Eastwood's willingness at that time to break new ground and tackle new genres. He plays a thoroughly unpleasant character here. A very intelligent, groundbreaking inventive movie.

This is a brilliant revenge story about Dwight, an apparent homeless drifter housing a grudge against a convict about to be released from prison whom he feels had murdered his parents. Dwight is obviously unaccustomed to violence (he's never fired a gun) and makes one bad decision that plunges him way over his head into a harrowing murder plot that'll keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
What makes this movie so unique is how its suspense comes from slow, quiet inexorable tension punctuated with a few acts of violence that seem authentic and containing none of the sensationalism of usual Hollywood thrillers. Macon Blair is excellent as Dwight. He's not a bad ass, just an ordinary guy taking matters into his own hands. This is an intense, and refreshingly original ride from start to finish. I loved it.

Augie Cortona is released from prison and sets about reclaiming his underworld business from his former henchmen and colleague Gollar who's taken control of his protection and prostitution racket and left Augie out in the cold. He bumps into out of work photographer Jessup Brown and the two of them set up in business as a high class agency which is a front for Augie's blackmailing activities.
A fascinating and slightly risque British noir b-movie. The underrated star Terence Morgan takes the main protagonist lead as a character you love to hate. The rest of the great cast includes the lovely Hazel Court as a top model, Bill Owen as Augie's cellmate, Donald Pleasence as an alcoholic photographer and Harry H. Corbett as a criminal whose accent changes as the movie goes on. There are twists and turns all over the place and even if you have some idea of what the ending is going to be, you've never quite sure what's going to take place along the way. This is a forgotten British crime movie that is worth checking out.

Rank International made some pretty odd movies in their time, and in this semi-comedy, semi-musical, they don't quite seem to know where this one is going. Donald Sinden plays a music shop assistant, Peter, who gets lumbered with Daisy the alligator on his trip home from holiday, during which time he has met Irish zoo employee Moira. The alligator gets Peter into all sorts of mischief! This is a relatively pleasant and light hearted affair but it does get silly as it progresses. There are a number of cameo appearances from the likes of Margaret Rutherford, Frankie Howerd and Jimmy Edwards. The musical numbers are a bit flat, and do not fit in very well with the movie. All in all, it's not a really good movie but you can't say it's terrible either and there is some kind of fun to be had from it all despite its shortcomings.

This is the 19th Dragon Ball movie to be released. Goku and his friends battle against one of the most famous villain in the series in Frieza who has been resurrected by some of the remnants of his old army. It perfects the mix of action and humour and creates one heck of a ride. Goku and Vegeta are the stars here and this movie includes some of the best interactions between the two characters, it's great to watch. Frieza is just as awesome as you remember him. There's an excellent mix of hand drawn and digital animation in the production. DBZ fans should enjoy this movie and won't be disappointed by what they see.

Tom Bell plays a physicist who suddenly finds himself in an alternate England after a scientific experiment. He learns that WW2 never happened, man never landed on the moon, etc but the differences in this other England are never explored and mean little to the plot. The focus is on Bell's relationship with Joan Collins. In his own world Bell is single and a scientist, in this other world he is a successful writer and married to Collins who despises him. Bell immediately falls in love with his "wife" and tries to convince her that he isn't who she thinks he is. Both Bell and Collins give good performances. Denholm Elliott appears in both worlds, one as his friend, in the other he loathes him. Although the ending was a bit abrupt, I still enjoyed this rarely seen movie.

Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan who also penned the impressive Sicario. A young FBI female agent is sent to investigate a death of a woman. It's a very slow movie, taking place in a snowy Native American reservation. The plot was difficult to figure out and the characters less compelling than I had hoped. The acting, for what the material gave them, was good. Jeremy Renner was okay as the sad hero figure and Elizabeth Olsen as the out of place FBI agent was probably the most well-drawn character in the movie. The scenery was nice if you like a lot of snow and people flying around on snow mobiles. In the end, I found it too boring and slow for my liking.

This is supposed to be a so-called masterpiece by French director Jean-Luc Godard but all I saw was an over-rated art house movie. It's a low budget black and white movie about a woman whose promiscuity sees her descend into prostitution, and I'm afraid it's a movie which left me cold. The characters are subdued and bored and thus come across as dull in themselves. I didn't care or feel sympathy for any of them. The movie is presented in 12 vignettes but they're all very similar and the viewer doesn't really learn or understand much from watching. Thankfully it finished after 80 mins to put me out of my misery.

A very good dramatisation of the real life Iranian Embassy siege and the subsequent storming by SAS forces that took place in London over 6 days during the early part of May 1980. The movie wastes no time and begins with the siege. It maintains tension and urgency throughout the movie, and time flies quickly. It is not easy to be the negotiator in this intense and fragile situation, and Mark Strong portrays the tough challenges very well. The movie is not a fast paced thriller nor was it intended to be. It is an honest depiction of what happened during those harrowing six days and how well the planning and execution of the SAS team handled the rescue of 24 of the 26 hostages. A very well acted and worthwhile movie that does not overdo or glorify this terrible event and illustrates excellent military type tactics still used today in similar situations.

Writer/director Michael Reeves' debut movie is a below average horror about a 300 year old witch whose body lies at a bottom of a lake in Romania that is resurrected after an accident plunges a car into the lake. The make-up for the witch's hideous face is well made - like a decaying corpse. It's a shame that Scream Queen Barbara Steele is only in the movie for the first 20 or so mins and then comes back for the final scene. Some of the acting by the cast is terrible. Future Saint actor Ian Oglivy gives a decent performance as the man out looking for his wife after her body disappears from the car accident they were in. Although the movie tries hard to be similar to Hammer horrors I don't think it succeeds. The plot can be dull at times and there's hardly any suspense or eeriness. This will never be a must-see for horror or Barbara Steele fans. Worth seeing as a curiosity, otherwise don't bother.

David Niven plays Major Bradbury, an English gentleman who gets a job in a troubled Far East country tutoring a young and impressionable Japanese boy about western history as his family will soon be moving to London because his father is a Japanese ambassador. Bradbury's tall tales makes an impression on the young lad who looks up to his tutor even though they are all lies. One day a group of terrorists kidnap the boy and Bradbury and lock them up in a hut high up in the mountains. They demand a ransom from the ambassador for his son or he'll die.
This is a good adventure movie for the whole family with strong performances from Niven and Japanese legend Toshiro Mifune. The story of a dreamer facing the consequences of his lying is entertaining and trying to make amends with one last act of heroism, full of pathos and regret. The moral of the tale is don't pretend to be something you're not or it might bite you in the arse one day! Overall, Paper Tiger is a gripping story, alternately funny, tense and moving, but above all it is a thoroughly warm-hearted and tenderly told tale of redemption. A nice movie to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

This is the prequel to 2014's Annabelle and it tells the origin story of the possessed doll Annabelle. I wasn't a big fan of the first movie but I thought I'd give this a go anyway. I wish I hadn't as it was so dull and boring! It's about a bunch of female orphans and a nun that stay in a creepy house where the owner's daughter tragically lost her life after being hit by a car 12 years earlier. Perhaps I've just seen one too many cliched supernatural horror flicks and this movie just seemed to be one of them. It didn't do anything for me and I couldn't wait for it to finish. The only good thing I can say is it was well made and it does tie-in with the first movie. It's not a horrible movie but it is forgettable and adds nothing new to the horror genre.

Steven Soderbergh returns with another heist movie. Although it lacks the charm of the Oceans trilogy, it is still a good movie to watch. It's about 2 brothers wanting to pull of a heist during a NASCAR driving race and recruiting a criminal serving time inside a jail and his 2 younger dim-witted siblings. The movie is well put together with a good script. The cast is excellent with Channing Tatum and Adam Driver as the 2 brothers but it's probably Daniel Craig who stands out among the cast with his bleached blonde hair as explosives expert Joe Bang. He steals every scene he's in and it looked like he'd been let loose and was enjoying himself. He does a very convincing Southern accent as well. Good for him and nice to see him play a semi-comedic role. I'm sure those that loved the Oceans trilogy will like this movie. Whilst it doesn't have the brilliant twists and turns of those movies, it is an entertaining ride from start to finish.
