Based on an incredible true story that took place in 1952 when a giant storm dominated the seas by breaking a tanker in half. With only a few hours left to survive, the crew does what they can to survive. A rescue ship is sent to try and get to them, but the question is will they? I love the early 50's look, it captures it so perfectly. Everybody gives a good performance. The storms scenes are also well shot, you'll feel caught up in the storm also. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's easy to compare this to The Perfect Storm, it has the same feel to it. Well worth watching.

This movie looks great on the outside but isn't really that interesting if you look a little closer. The visuals are lovely, some of the music is great and acting is... alright... for the most part. The first 20-30 minutes were fine then it went downhill. Bek was an entertaining, Ulysses-like character with some great lines, and Zaya was endearing and a feast for the eyes. They might have saved the movie with more time on-screen. But no, they disappeared in a headlong rush of CGI-driven scenes where there's no real feeling of peril, just raging gods and goddesses, collapsing buildings and strange creatures slithering around. Don't get me wrong. I know it's a fantasy movie, and it is imaginary gods we're talking about but I didn't feel I was entertained enough and it went on for far too long. With more focus on the characters, and a running length of 100 minutes, this would have made this a much better movie.

Based on a true story, this is a very uplifting movie about a 10 year old girl Anna diagnosed with a serious digestive problem which would have in the end killed her. Whilst coming home from hospital to recuperate, she climbs a hollowed out tree and falls inside. Miraculously after her tumble, she is cured of her problem. The story of a family in crisis, when the middle child gets a terminal illness, when all seems lost, a miracle suddenly happens. Whether you are religious or not, the story is compelling and the acting is solid. Jennifer Garner does a wonderful job at pulling you into their family dynamic and the tremendous amount of love for her daughter. Kylie Rogers who plays Anna is awesome. You can truly feel her emotional performance. Her acting range is clearly evident in this movie. She is such a talented young performer. It's not too preachy and all the family can enjoy it.

A bat shit crazy comedy action movie done in an 80's cheesy style! Struck by lightning and bit by a cobra, an ordinary cop has a revelation which helps him master a new form of Kung Fu so powerful that only he, the chosen one, can learn. He has to travel back in time to stop Adolf Hitler aka Kung Fuhrer before he wreaks havoc in the future. Watching this left me with a big smile. It is fantastic and so funny. It is well produced and you can really feel that it's a genuine dream project of the creator. The pacing works brilliantly, the soundtrack fits perfect with the action and theme, and the special effects is really high class. Awesome in everything and just simply a great ride! It has laser shooting dinosaurs, a triceratop cop, kung fu, vikings with guns, time travel and Thor. It crams everything into the 30 min running time. Such a fun movie that has to be seen to be believed. Don't miss out on one of the best movies of 2015.

The sequel to the 2002 highly successful hit comedy is finally here with the whole family returning for another wedding. Like most belated comedy sequels, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this movie, I expected it to play off what made the first movie successful and be relatively average. And that is more or less what we have here, in some aspects it delivers fairly well and in others it really doesn't. One of the things I liked hearing going into this movie was that the whole cast was returning and that it was being written by Nia Vardalos who also wrote the first one. It gave me some hope that it would have the same overall feeling. The comedic aspects of the movie were definitely there and there were some funny moments. There wasn't really a steady flow of comedy throughout the movie, it's sort of delivered in sections here and there. Pretty much, whenever it focused on the Greek aspects of the movie there were plenty of jokes, most of the time. And after seeing this movie, I gotta say, there are quite a few good laughs..... if you're Greek that is, but if you're not and you don't understand a lot about Greek culture, there really isn't much here for you. It's not as good as the first movie but there are laughs to be had from this movie. Worth checking out.

This is a fantastic live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's classic novel featuring the characters of Mowgli, Bagheera the beautiful black panther, Shere Khan the ferocious, cruel and brutal tiger, Baloo the happy-go-lucky bear, Kaa the sly snake, the wolves, elephants, apes and many others. The screenplay keeps you engrossed and demands your attention right from the first frame to the last. Action-packed with fantastic visual effects and charming picturisation of the jungle, Jon Favreau's version of the Disney classic is an adventurous and thrilling ride. Mowgli played by Neel Sethi is very endearing and is cast perfectly alongside Bill Murray as Baloo. The dubbing done for all the animals is excellent and it adds life to the movie. This movie is one epic adventure which kids and the child inside you will enjoy to the fullest. I feel its humanly impossible to make a better version from what director Jon Favreau and team has offered. Very rarely we get to see movies which have a soul, great story and executed brilliantly which makes up for a great cinematic experience. The Jungle Book achieves this feat.

In the vein of Bad Santa and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation comes this strictly-for-adults Christmas-themed comedy that you would expect to be filled to the brim with hearty entertainment. Unfortunately The Night Before is one of those saddening experiences in which the trailer features all of the good bits and, worse still, even those moments aren't that funny once put into context. Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie play three mates who have celebrated Christmas together ever since high school with tacky annual traditions and all – but are now heading in different directions. These genuinely hilarious actors throw everything but the kitchen sink at the screen in an effort to lift the otherwise lacklustre material, yet witnessing their effortless chemistry only underscores how much of a wasted opportunity this movie really is. The tone is extremely wonky, veering from crude humour to mawkish sentimentality with the flip of a switch. These sudden mood changes muddy the aim of the movie entirely and result in lengthy periods of corny emotion. Oh, and watching Rogen high on drugs has already worn exceptionally thin, so whoever decided it would be a good idea to have him strung out on mushrooms and cocaine for the whole movie should be banned from Hollywood. A nearly completely laugh-free affair (save for an amusing cameo late in the piece), The Night Before squanders its potential and ensures its place alongside any number of Vince Vaughn-led Yuletide yarns.

The movie tells the story of a 'not-too-distant future', when alien invaders have wiped out most of humanity; in four deadly attacks. One young woman, Cassie Sullivan, has survived the attacks; but most of her family was killed, all except her younger brother Sam. They've been separated, by military forces, and Cassie has now made it her obsessive mission to find Sam, and protect him. She must team up with other young survivors, in order to do so. The movie is mildly entertaining; the effects aren't bad, and it's a decent sci-fi premise. Chloe Grace Moretz makes a good, strong young heroine; but her role isn't really that interesting. The rest of the cast are all good, in other movies, but they're kind of wasted here. The storyline is very predictable with few surprises. Odds are your enjoyment of The 5th Wave will be directly correlated to how much you like YA fiction in general.

This is a side-story from the original Cloverfield movie. Following a car accident, Michelle wakes up chained to a basement wall: it transpires the basement is a fallout bunker belonging to Howard, who saved her from the car crash and, together with Emmett (who helped him build it) is standing by for a stay of a year or more, giving the attack which is going on overhead. But Howard seems a bit intense, so is he telling the truth? Cloverfield was a found footage movie showing an alien assault on New York. 10 Cloverfield Lane is an entirely different kind of movie. Staged tightly and claustrophobically more or less within the single setting of the bunker, this is a study of the interactions between three people: John Goodman is Howard, a truly intense performance. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, as Michelle, is a victim with fight left in her: in fact, her character has a very strong arc, from someone who always runs away, to someone who learns how to fight for survival. John Gallagher Jr does well as Emmett, a rather thankless role of the third point on the triangle, necessary only for character dynamics between Michelle and Howard. This movie really tries to be two movies rather than one. There is the suspense thriller and there is the monster horror movie. It does a great job with the former but barely introduces the latter. As a whole I was extremely gripped, surprised and impressed with this movie that for the most part was a fantastic suspense thriller. But aside from the terrible title and random aliens during the final 15 mins this is very good suspense thriller that is worth checking out.

A dentist goes mad when he discovers his wife is cheating on him with the pool boy. This movie attracted my attention by being brought by the creators of "Re-Animator". Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon are a pretty incredible team, and I've thoroughly enjoyed their body of work. Sadly, I think this one falls short of their other projects. The acting is cheesy, over-the-top and the general plot is just weak. The real strength of this movie is in the special effects and makeup. While some of the scenes aren't exactly realistic, the effects crew went out of their way to be disgusting and gory. Many people dislike tooth trauma in horror movies, so this is going to leave them feeling very uncomfortable. I don't like teeth being pulled or knocked out with hammers, but the way this movie presented it, I found the gore more enjoyable than disturbing. For the most part, "The Dentist" is a forgettable movie and not something you really need to see.

This is a fascinating documentary about a Superman movie reboot that was never made in the mid 90's. Tim Burton was set to direct it with an unlikely star in Nicolas Cage about to take on the mantle of the Man Of Steel. The movie on paper sounded like a big mess but the action set pieces would have been incredible to see. Due to the Batman movies not doing too well at the time and several Warner Bros productions bombing at the box office, they decided to pull the plug a mere 3 weeks from working began on the movie. All the players in the movie from Kevin Smith and Tim Burton (sadly Nic Cage didn't want to appear) give in-depth interviews about the ideas they had for storylines etc. The test footage with Nic Cage in the Superman costume is interesting to see. This documentary was very informative to see the process of making a movie of this scale back then. Would this movie have succeeded had it gone into full production? Well I'm sure it would have been better than Superman Returns! It's a good 'What If' documentary for sure.

I'm somewhat surprised by the mauling some of the press has given this movie as I thought it was very good. Sure, there's way too much talking in the first half but everything kicks into high gear during the second half which is thrilling and exciting. The movie is excellent in many ways including plot, actors, characters, music and effects. The dark tone that director Zach Snyder gave to the movie is a whole different thing from every other Superman or Batman movie that we've ever seen and I loved it. Ben Affleck's Batman is incredible and worthy of turning into a movie icon. The way the the hero is turned into a dark vigilante willing to do anything to protect not only Gotham but the rest of the world, really makes us think about this character's potential in future solo movies. Henry Cavill did a great job as Superman equal or better than in Man of Steel. And Gal Gadot surprised me with her performance as Wonder Woman. Just go and see it and make up your own mind. A brilliant opener for the DC Cinematic Universe and I can't wait for the next installment.

From the director of The Blair Witch Project comes a movie about 5 teenagers who are on a cabin getaway and are hunted by Bigfoot. The teens must survive and find a way to escape in this interesting found-footage movie. Though this is a formulaic monster movie, it succeeds in delivering some killer Bigfoot material. Director Eduardo Sanchez brilliantly enlists the creepy atmospherics of the woods to produce anxiety and panic with some effective scares, while showcasing his Bigfoot as a brutal monster, yet shrouding it in enough mystery to perpetuate the myth. The recording camera is used extremely well in instances where the sasquatch can be seen in brief glimpses, charging towards characters, reaching at characters, tipping over an RV with characters hidden inside as it tumbles over a cliff, a character lifted off his feet and tossed right into a turned-over tree. The acting from the cast and some of the dialogue is rather cliched but that's just a minor gripe. Overall, the movie was well created, with many moments of horror and suspense.

An unidentified sniper with a high-powered semi-automatic rifle is picking off the last residents of a decaying inner city tower block. He has control of the power to the building and has also set booby traps to prevent them leaving the top floor. The scene is set for a ferocious game of cat and mouse in this tense low-budget British thriller. What makes it good and watchable? The characters are everyday people believably portrayed by an accomplished cast of performers – which helps a great deal. Sheridan Smith is excellent as the heroine and Jack O'Connell stands out as Kurtis, the block's resident criminal running a protection racket on the others. Tension mounts as the group in-fight and bicker and are knocked off one by one as they try various modes of escape. Their plight is linked to the recent murder of a young man in the building whereby they failed to help the police with their enquiries. Someone seems to be holding them responsible for not contributing to the perpetrators being caught. But who? The identity of the sniper – when revealed – is a bit of a letdown and stretches credibility, but apart from that it's a gripping little piece that achieves effective results on a small budget. All in all it's a little predictable at times but still a good thriller to pass the time.

What a shame that this movie is awful. I actually liked Part 1 quite a lot. Characters were developed, story was set up, really creepy looking ghoulish giants as the enemy. Unfortunately, Part 2 is not as good as the first. Too much talking in the first hour and not enough action. If viewers are still awake during the final hour they're treated to a rumble between 3 Titans which should have been exciting but it isn't. The acting by the young cast is also ridiculously OTT. I really wanted to like this movie but I just couldn't. All the good work done in the first movie was destroyed in this one. A complete botch job by the filmmakers. Not worth bothering with really.
