A henchman of Satan is bought back to life and poses as a priest in order to get closer to young virgins he needs for human sacrifice.
This is a like a British poor man's variation on Dracula. Given that the first 10 mins were rather good, I expected the rest to be just the same but no, it all goes downhill. Ex radio DJ Mike Raven plays satanist The Stranger and is out-acted by virtually the rest of the cast which includes Ronald Lacey and future Dr Who assistant Louise Jameson. The script is really poor and for the first 50 mins nothing of any substance happens. Things do pick up in the final 25 mins but not in any degree that it saves the movie from being what it is - a total catastrophe. Overall, this is a total misfire horror movie which should be avoided at all costs.

A man with his young son is sent to a country to do an environmental report but finds that his company has other ulterior motives behind sending him there. Also a chinese man is trying to track down a dragon which is supposedly hiding in some caves.
This obscure children's movie was a delight to watch. It's allegedly supposed to be a satire on cold war politics at the time. Shockingly for a kids movie there are a number of violent deaths such as a crossbow to the heart, a jeep with a driver which careers off a cliff and explodes and other goons gets shot or pushed off high places. The story is good and interesting but the special effects are dire. The dragon looks like something from "The Dark Crystal" with its eyes that shoots red lasers and turns people into stone. Christopher Lloyd performs well with Dee Wallace as a witch called Alta. The two youngsters were also great. The cinematography is beautiful with the movie being shot in rural Poland. Despite the violent content for a kids movie, this was quite an enjoyable tale to watch.

An Arizona policeman and his pilot buddy discover a scheme to rob Las Vegas slot machines by computer.
A terrible actioner. In theory, even a sub-standard buddy cop thriller with Bo Svenson and Fred Williamson should be able achieve borderline adequacy thanks to the charisma of its leads, but unfortunately they seemingly have less screen time than the endless, deathly dull helicopter chase scenes, and the whole movie is cursed by one of the worst, most annoyingly insistent soundtrack I've ever heard. Even the action scenes are poorly choreographed. Complete rubbish.

Two brothers return to the cult they fled from years ago to discover that the groupโs beliefs may be more sane than they once thought.
This sci-fi/paranormal movie struggles to stand out in any significant way. There are many things I liked about the movie but an equal amount that I didn't. It has an interesting style until any special effects is used which always looks terrible. I didn't think the two leads who also directed the movie weren't that good. It also goes on for way too long. Nothing is spelt out to the viewer and, at times, the dialogue is so intangible it becomes meaningless. If you are looking for complete closure at the end of the movie, this is not for you.

In an unnamed Eastern European nation, inundated by an immoral government, violence and military law, a retiring colonel and his friends who are fed up of what they see occurring in their country are forced to put together a bold and hazardous military revolution dโetat.
An enjoyable thriller. It was interesting for the way that it showed how a coup was organised and carried out, and having it set in a non-specific location allowed the movie to make good points about revolutions and the state, although the violence was quite brutal and most of the characters were a bit underdeveloped. The action sequences though there isn't a lot of them are well executed. There's a twist to the tale right at the end as well. The cast is headed by the trio of Donald Pleasance, Peter O'Toole and David Hemmings with ITC mainstay Barry Morse also having a small supporting role. This is an underrated movie which didn't do too well at the time of it's release but I think it's definitely worth having a look.

Sir Charles Hare, a young Irish baronet, gambles his all on one of his horses at Ascot. But the horse is โpulledโ, and Sir Charles is forced to sell his Irish estate. His aunt, however, has some surprises in store for him.
The 50's were supposed to be a golden period for British comedy movies though sadly this movie doesn't deserve to be labelled as a comedy as it is virtually devoid of it. It is ponderous and holds very little interest unless you have a great interest in racehorses or Peggy Cummins. The awful soundtrack doesn't help things either. I wasn't that impressed by the cast which includes Terence Morgan (who never does well in comedies), Wilfrid Hyde-White, Cyril Cusack and a cameo by Charles Hawtrey. Don't waste your time watching this clunker.

A Liverpool gang member is called up for National Service where he clashes with another soldier.
I wasn't expecting this to be such a good drama. The juvenile delinquency storyline is wonderfully evocative of the 1950's (all greased back quiffs, leather jackets, chain smoking and coffee bars). Frankie Vaughan takes centre stage and gets to perform 2 numbers which will please his fans. The story gets so much better when the location changes to the army barracks and Vaughan's character butts heads with another troublemaker. Things escalate out of control which leads to Vaughan's character accused of shooting him and then going on the run. Vaughan is supported in this movie by the tragic Carole Lesley and George Baker. There are small roles for Kenneth Cope and John Le Mesurier and a cameo from Thora Hird. In the end, this is an enjoyable movie with a good and exciting story and fine performances from the cast.

A sailor gets caught in a whirlpool of trouble with the police and murdering jewel thieves when smuggling black market goods ashore. Along his heap of troubles he gets his other innocent sailor friend into the mix unknowingly.
This is a very good movie of a ship docked in London and the way everyday minor smuggling of contraband and nylons escalates into a jewel heist for a pair of sailors. There's also a nice grittiness to the ship and dockside setting and some excellent location shooting in the old London docks and bombed out centre. It was nice to see some of the old trams running in the city too, a year before they were taken out of service for good until they returned in 2000. The characters and dialogue all have a bit more detail and bite than they need which, together with the racial angles, elevates a fairly generic plot to a great one. There's many familiar faces in small cameos which include Leslie Phillips, James Robertson Justice and a blink or you'll miss it appearance by Arthur Mullard. Another interesting movie by director Basil Dearden which you should seek out to see.

Josephine is a woman with an ever-loving and over-sympathetic nature that leads her to switch from needful men to even more needful men.
Not one of the Boulting Brothers' best efforts. Despite a great cast, this movie lacks in any kind of humour and it's a big reason why this movie doesn't work. The script is terrible to say the least. The performances from Glynis Johns, Donald Sinden and Peter Finch are fine, it's just a shame their talent are wasted in this unfunny movie. I really didn't enjoy this one bit.

Middle-aged Ann and her teenage daughter Joanna manage a failing hotel on an island off the British coast. One day, the hotel receives an unexpected guest, a man named Joe who used to date Ann but walked out on her 20 years previously. Now he's back and hoping to rekindle the romance but Ann has a rival for his affection - her daughter Joanna!
An interesting love triangle movie with great performances from the main trio of Cliff Robertson, Vanessa Redgrave and Susan George. She is very sexy and provocative as the daughter. It's a very conversation-heavy movie with mysterious, manipulating and sensitive characters who cannot always be trusted. The mother and daughter occasionally find it hard to get on with one another whilst Joe tends to stray when he gets the chance. There is quite an ambigious ending to the movie which suggests that Joe may be having an incestuous relationship with his own daughter. One of the female characters bails out in the final scene but it doesn't show who leaves? Worth having a look at.

Determined to have a normal family life once his mother gets out of prison, a Scottish teenager from a tough background sets out to raise the money for a home.
A typically great Ken Loach drama about the plight of the common man, this brings the forces of adversity and the futility of naive courage into bold relief with this hopeful examination of one boy's struggle to make a better life for himself and his loser mother. The story is a gritty uncompromising tale of growing up in a drug infested section of Scotland. Nobody wins in this movie and it is quite depressing. Martin Compston as Liam is outstanding. You know what you're getting when you watch a Ken Loach movie and this is no exception. Bleak it may be but extremely watchable.

Teenager Leslie Hindenberg, mistakenly believing she has just weeks to live, decides she will lose her virginity before she dies.
A poor teen sex comedy and is is officially credited as being a loose adaptation of the sex manual that was popular back in the 70's. It has remarkably little joy and next to no sex. It was lumped initially under the National Lampoon banner but has since been dropped. The story had the potential to be a fun high school movie but it fell far short of the mark. There are a couple of good laughs but not nearly enough. The acting is atrocious from everybody apart from Christopher Lloyd. In the end, this is a forgettable 80's comedy and a waste of time.

A middle aged writer of pornographic novels meets and falls in love with a sixteen year old school girl. This alone is cause for concern but when the couple get married and move to America, the trouble really begins.
This is an extremely awkward and embarassing movie to watch. There is no chance this kind of movie could be made these days. It doesn't help that the massive age gap is further heightened by the casting of Charles Bronson, who always looked much older than his years, and Susan George playing her character as an immature, hyperactive 10 year old even though she is supposed to be 16. Charles Bronson looks very much out of place in this movie and even though Susan George does look very stunning, her character is incredibly annoying. This is supposed to be a comedy but there's nothing funny about it at all. The story is just so creepy and disturbing. A pretty dreadful movie all round.

An orphan bear cub hooks up with an adult male as they try to dodge human hunters.
From time to time, you stumble on a movie about which you just don't know what to think when you haven't seen it. This is such a movie. What can you expect from a movie which features a large male Kodiak, a little motherless bear cub and two hunters? A lot, as this movie shows you. It's really a very touching story which is told from the perspective of the bears and not of the humans as you might expect. The cinematography is breathless and even though the movie is set in British Columbia it was actually filmed in Austria and Italy. The one thing that I didn't like about this movie was the stupid scene showing the bear cub tripping out after eating magic mushrooms. A really dumb idea to show that. Apart from that, I loved everything about this movie. One of the best movies showing animals I think I've seen.

A troubled young woman goes to confession at the local church. Unfortunately, the sexually frustrated priest she confesses to becomes obsessed with her. At first, the priest stalks the woman, but later it is revealed that he will stop at nothing, including blackmail and murder, just to get close to her.
What a great movie this is with a captivating premise that is well executed and maintains a dark and macabre interest throughout. The brooding atmosphere and intriguing performances does enough to keep you interested until the chilling climax. The movie's tone is relentlessly bleak and grim, yet it's effective and really quite compelling, with some decent and chilling death scenes throughout. The cast here are pretty stellar with standout performances by Anthony Sharp as the demented, unhinged and repressed Father Meldrum. Shelia Keith also gives a good performance as the overbearing housekeeper with a sinister presence. She has the air of a former Nazi female officer about her. Susan Penhaligon is as lovely as ever here. On the whole this is a cracking and tense horror movie which is really worth having a look at.

Four college pledges are forced to spend the night in a deserted old mansion where they get killed off one by one by the monstrous surviving members of a family massacre years earlier for trespassing on their living grounds.
This is a great slasher from the early 80's with creepy scenes, thrills, chills, screams, shocks, and lots of blood and gore. The movie contains the usual disturbing set pieces including continuous slashing, stabbing, beheading as well as upsetting and gory attacks. In the finale there are various extended and climatic surprises with twists and turns. The plot is hardly original in that it takes stuff from other classic slashers. Linda Blair is the scream queen in this horror and she performs well enough. If you love these kind of horror movies, you'll get a good kick out of this one.
