Mutant on the Bounty
The crew of an interplanetary commercial freighter beams aboard a now horribly mutated saxophone player who has been adrift in space for over twenty years. He starts to get along with the crew, and very close with an alluring journalist. But that’s when two criminals are beamed aboard, taking the ship hostage. One of the lamest sci-fi b-movie comedies I've had the misfortune to watch. The opening is promising then it runs right into a wall with unfunny jokes and crap dialog which is a shame as the production values on the movie are rather good. One of the characters has definitely been ripped off from the BBC comedy Red Dwarf. He looks like Arnold Rimmer from Season 1 and even acts likes him. The only difference I could see was Rimmer is a hologram and the character in this movie is an android. The acting is abysmal from the entire cast. Seriously, avoid this movie like the plague. It's that bad!

Murder Without Crime
A man gets in trouble when he accidentally kills and covers up a murder of a girl he meets after a big fight with his wife. His landlord who suspects something is up tries to blackmail him. A slick noirish thriller atmospherically directed by J. Lee Thompson based on a stage play. In fact the story is fairly stagebound with much of the action confined to a flat where the murder takes place. The movie is ruined a little bit by an annoying American narrator. Despite having a plot which stretches the bounds of credibility, the psychological duel between the guilt-ridden tenant and his blackmailing landlord alone makes this movie worth watching. And of course there is one final twist in the tale right near the end as well. The cast perform well but it is Dennis Price and Derek Farr that takes centre stage. All in all, this is a great movie that deserves to be seen more.

Trent
When a wealthy business man is found dead reporter Philip Trent is sent to investigate. Against the police conclusions, he suspects the assumed suicide is really a murder, and becomes highly interested in the young widow and the dead man’s private secretary. A remake of a movie that was previously made during the silent era, this version is boosted enormously by a strong cast and especially the distinguished presence of Orson Welles. It has a fairly brisk pace about it and the story is fairly interesting. Michael Wilding and Margaret Lockwood are good in their roles but I was more interested in the very brief cameo of Kenneth Williams. This was his movie debut and although uncredited, he is amusing in playing a gardener with a Welsh accent. Unfortunately if you're expecting a great ending, that never happens. It finishes rather flat and peters out. Overall, it's an OK time waster and nothing else.

Passage Home
Set in 1931 aboard a merchant ship, briefly harboured in South America. A young woman boards the ship as a passenger, resulting in disharmony among the superstitious crew members. An interesting movie mostly based on a love triangle between two of the ship members and a female passenger. The story also revolves around the crew's reactions to their stern captain's emotional dissolution in the face of feminine charm. Apart from the staff threatening mutiny due to bad potatoes being served to them as food, nothing exciting happens until the end when the ship has to go through an almighty storm. The movie has an impressive cast led by Peter Finch as the drunken captain ably supported by Geoffrey Keen, Anthony Steel, Hugh Griffith and an early appearance by Patrick McGoohan. Diane Cilento is stunning as the only woman aboard the ship. Even though it isn't the most exciting of movies to sit through, there's plenty of drama to entertain the viewer and it's worth watching in my opinion.

Terror Ship
A yacht in the English channel is helped to port - when the police arrive there are no crew, no papers and no clues. What is the mystery of the ghost ship? This starts out as a fairly standard boat thriller about two missing people that have disappeared into something about atomic bombs. It starts quite slow then moves into high gear during the second half with people getting shot at, a woman locked up inside an empty building and an atomic blast during the finale. The director decided rather stupidly to insert a useless comical scene inside a French police station. It's a bit out of place in the scheme of things. Good acting from the cast which includes the beautiful and stylish Naomi Chance. I liked the tempo of the whole story and it ended very satisfying. A decent movie in the end.

Serious Charge
Howard Phillips, a vicar who’s new in the town of Bellington, wants to reach out to youth. The previous vicar’s daughter, Hester Peters, who fears being a spinster, wants to be his wife. He tells her he’s not interested. When he confronts a tough kid about something the youth has done, the lad sets out to frame the vicar. Hester, who’s walked in on the confrontation, backs the youth’s story. A very daring movie in its day but may now look very much like a period piece yet this British movie about a vicar falsely accused of molesting a teenage boy still packs a punch thanks in large part to a fine script by Guy Elmes and Mickey Delamar and good performances from Anthony Quayle as the vicar, Andrew Ray as the boy who makes the allegation, Sarah Churchill as the woman who has the hots for Quayle and, perhaps best of all, Irene Browne as Quayle's no-nonsense mother. It was also the movie that introduced a young Cliff Richard to the big screen as Ray's younger brother and he also gets to sing Living Doll. The ending is rather predictable but the movie as a whole hangs together quite nicely; it's a solid story which is well told.

Having a Wild Weekend
Dinah is a famous model and actress who is getting tired of life in the limelight and wants to take a break. While shooting a commercial spot for meat, she meets Steve, a stuntman. Dinah and Steve hit it off and decide to head to an island to get away from it all with Steve's friends in tow. This movie is a kind of spiritual successor to the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night with with John Boorman directing this movie in a documentary-like style following The Dave Clark Five on a kind of road trip as they work for an advertising company selling meat. It doesn't sound very exciting and it really isn't, as the singers don't have really anything in the way of screen presence and their dialogue is constantly stilted and more than a little annoying. The saving grace is the presence of real actors in support which includes Ronald Lacey and Clive Swift. The tone of the movie changes from being a bit surreal at the start to more downbeat especially in the 2nd half. Still, this didn't really interest me at all and I found it rather tedious. I'm sure this movie has its fans though.

A group of crooks plan a heist to steal twenty million Australian dollars from a Security Firm counting house. A flop upon it's release and not that widely known, this is a gritty and violent Aussie crime drama based on two real-life robberies that occurred in Sydney during the summer of 1970. Its hardboiled feel is established very quickly in the opening scenes. The majority of the characters the viewer is introduced to is corrupt and basically there is no 'good guy' in the movie at all. The violence on show is graphic and impactful and one of the most memorable elements of the movie is particularly during the final shootout that occurs inside the garage of the armour car company. The cast which includes Terence Donovan all perform well in their dark roles. I'm not sure why this movie is largely ignored but it's well written, has a great cast and is directed competently by Bruce Beresford who would go on to make the brilliant Breaker Morant. Definitely one to seek out.

The Narrowing Circle
A journalist is framed for the murder of a rival and has to prove his innocence, whatever the cost. A fairly entertaining b-movie quickie. It's based on a novel by Julian Symonds using office politics as it's starting point which then turns into a murder mystery. Paul Carpenter along with Hazel Court has to find the people that could prove he is innocent but every time he comes across their corpse. One good thing about this movie is you don't have a clue who the real killer is until the end and the reason why he killed started killing. For a thriller, there's not that many thrills to be had. The cast are just OK in their roles. It makes for a good 66 min time waster that's all.
