Deep in an African forest lives a family of chimpanzees, including a baby named Oscar. Displaying the playful curiosity and ingenuity of fellow primates, Oscar and his family navigate the forest's complex territory with relative ease. Usually, the world is a playground for Oscar and his young comrades, but when his family encounters a rival band of chimps, he is left to fend for himself. However, a surprising ally steps in and changes Oscar's life forever. I wasn't sure what to expect of this documentary movie but I knew it wouldn't be anything as good as something with David Attenborough narrating. I would describe this movie as half brilliant documentary and half cheesy kids movie. I wasn't quite sure what to believe was natural footage and what was some sort of staged animal wrangling or CGI. Ultimately this movie delivers a touching story of a young primate and his tribe. Though somewhat contrived at times there are many, many moments of genuine intimacy that tug the heartstrings and also make you wonder how in the world they got these shots. Thankfully there's a bit of explanation at the end. Tim Allen is just OK as the narrator. I wouldn't call this a must-see nature documentary. Good to watch once and then you forget about it.

A young gambler who exposes a gang of gambling crooks finds he's a marked man when they try and force him and his wife out of town. This isn't a well known Shaw Brothers movie but the storyline is typical of the tragic endings that they were famed for. It's an action packed movie with a high body count and tons of blood. Yueh Hua is great as the smooth and sly Luo Tian Guang. He's so clever and self assured that you know he's bound to end up badly at some point or other. After he's framed, tortured and just barely saved from execution, he heals his wounds, and in the finale, goes after the nasty thugs instigating a vicious slaughter that sees Luo take an extreme amount of punishment. He's beaten, stabbed with bayonets and shot around a dozen times and still manages to take out a handful of guys before collapsing from his massive wounds. Shek Kin will be familiar to martial arts fans as Mr Han from Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon and here he also plays a nasty villain. The crimson stuff flows freely throughout but it turns into a huge bloodbath by the end. Shaw Brothers fans should seek this out as it's well worth watching.

Hellboy battles an ancient sorceress who is resurrected and wants to end the world. This is an awful movie compared to the other two that were directed by Guillermo del Toro. It was so disappointing and so forgettable, it's a tragedy and sin to moviegoers they opted to make this ramshackle ruinous flick instead of ending the initial Hellboy trilogy by making Hellboy 3. The few good things Hellboy had going for it was David Harbour's performance in which he attempted to do his best with a poor script. There is also plenty of action from start to finish and the movie keeps throwing different things at you, which can be saw as a good or a bad thing depending on your taste in movies. Overall, you should give Hellboy a miss, unless you are willing to ignore the story and look at the action instead.

Having enjoyed Infinity War, I thought that this movie would top that but I was wrong. So why didn't I enjoy this movie? I'm not sure where to start. Now, don't get me wrong, the movie is somewhat watchable, but I believe the fans deserved much more than "watchable" for this final installment of the franchise. I could basically write a book about what's wrong with this movie, but won't as I've already spend too much time on this abomination. Action balance is terrible. In the first 2 hours, basically nothing happens and what does happen makes no sense. There is almost no action and the storyline is all over the place. And then, all of a sudden the whole hell breaks loose. That wouldn't be so bad if the final battle was spectacular as it should be, but it wasn't. It was a 15 minutes of pure chaos and CGI showcase. It wasn't clear who does what, who fights who. Screen time balance was terrible as well. I understand the idea to focus on the original Avengers squad, but that's not the reason to give like 90% of the screen time to them and 10% to other 50 characters in the MCU. Everything looks rushed. The main story is all over the place. The entire time travel plot is a mess. Fight scenes are not choreographed well so it's difficult to follow what's going on most of the time. There is no character development. They just pop up out of nowhere. Humour is forced and out of the place most of the time. Overall, this wasn't the Endgame I was hoping for.

This is a cheesy but highly entertaining horror anthology from Amicus Studios. What makes this recommendable is the cast, as it features Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and young Donald Sutherland in an early role. Even legendary Radio 1 DJ Alan 'Fluff' Freeman is one of the cast! Peter Cushing stars as the mysterious Dr. Schreck, a fortune teller, who offers five other men in his train cabin to tell their future from his tarot cards. Each man's future is one part of the anthology, which, among other things, features voodoo, killer vine, a vampire and a werewolf. The stories are of course quite brief, with five stories in only 95 minutes there is simply no place for a lot of depth. The stories are brief, and partly very cheesy, however, every single story entertains highly. Peter Cushing is excellent and eerie as usual as Dr. Schreck, and fellow horror icon Christopher Lee is equally great as one of the passengers in the train, an arrogant art-critic. It is also a lot of fun to watch Donald Sutherland in this early role. Fans of traditional and British horror will enjoy it.

A young boy is left with his grandfather in the country while his parents travel to a funeral elsewhere. Soon, the visit turns into a gruesome story of trying to survive a home invasion, from a deranged maniac, laying traps and uncovering some terrible secrets about the family's past. This is director Michael Peterson's first feature length foray into the horror genre. It works very well for a genre movie, with intense atmosphere throughout, some inventive scenes involving traps, even if more such scenes could have elevated the movie into being better than it actually was. Plotwise, the story draws many ideas from Home Alone, however, the storyline has been transplanted into the horror genre, and as such, the violence is somewhat more gruesome, and the implications of what will happen if the boy doesn't stop the intruder places the stakes much higher and really helps to bring the tension up. The movie does falter to a few clichés towards the end. That said, Knuckleball is a good movie, and a coherent and enjoyable horror flick from first-time horror director Michael Peterson.

A young funeral clerk is bored with his life and builds a world of elaborate lies to compensate for it. This is tagged as a classic kitchen sink drama. It's a good portrayal of working class life up in Yorkshire in the early 60's. While Billy is not a likable person due to the way he treats people, they all seem to put up with him and give him a second, third and fourth chance. Tom Courtney's performance is excellent, he plays Billy as a mixture of dreamer and low-grade sociopath, drawing both our sympathy and scorn. A young Julie Christie is also great. She's as natural and pretty here as she ever was. As a snapshot of Britain at this particular time, it's a valuable movie. The camera often shows wrecking balls smashing down the walls of old homes, and at one point a town councillor marks an entire swath of the city for demolition. A scene at a dance club captures the growing influence of rock 'n' roll on Britain. The overall message of the movie is a letdown though, essentially saying that young people should give up their silly dreams and give in to their parents' demands. I wouldn't call this movie a classic but I'd recommend that movie fans should see it once.

Writer/director Matt Ross tells the tale of what one might consider a dysfunctional family. Viggo Mortensen stars as Ben Cash a father of six children, together they live in their own paradise in a forest somewhere in North America. For the most part the Cash family has to fend for themselves, they gather their own food, built their own tools and the children are all home-schooled. When they hear the news that their mother has committed suicide they are forced to return from their paradise. What follows is a journey in which the lifestyle of the Cash family is put to the test. Matt Ross has done a terrific job at bringing this family alive. The story is very well centered around the family and more so the manner in which their upbringing has influenced their lives. The family itself is presented in a very eccentric fashion however it is never pushed to an extreme that would make one stop suspending their disbelief. For the most part the story progressed in a very natural fashion aside from just a few moments where certain events or character progression felt extremely forced. Viggo Mortensen fits his character like a glove and his performance as Ben Cash was very convincing. For the most part the same holds for the rest of the cast, they all seemed to be having a lot of fun which helped cement the feeling that they were all one big happy family. When the movie reached the end, it just did not feel as satisfying as it could and should have been. The journey itself was still fun to experience and in the end presented some great food for thought about how one should go about raising their children. Overall, a solid movie which is fun to watch and provides food for thought.

This is a very odd little British crime movie, told in a semi-humorous way. The movie features the exceedingly slimy Peter Reynolds as a man who plans the perfect murder. The plot has plenty of twists and turns but is spoiled somewhat by the descent into farcical overacting in the second half, with various actors continually shouting at each other which quickly becomes tiring. One of the most interesting things about this cheapie is the supporting cast, featuring Kynaston Reeves as an interfering old-timer, Leslie Dwyer as a porter, and a youthful Charles Hawtrey in a very funny slapstick-themed performance. Worth checking out if you've got nothing better to see.

After finding a laptop, a young man goes online to play a game with five of his good friends. He shows them a mysterious folder that plays disturbing videos of people who appear to be in danger. They then receive an anonymous message that tells them they will all die if they disconnect or call the police. The planned night of fun quickly turns deadly as each user becomes the target of something sinister, while the others must watch helplessly in terror. I went into it expecting it to be like the first, which was OK. But interestingly, this one was better even though it's not exactly amazing. But how is it better? I'd like to say first that while I am saying certain aspects are better, its still not a perfect movie. The story in this one was at least a little bit more engaging. Another problem with the first one was that the camera use was off putting, too many big faces, but thankfully this one expands on the first's cinematography which makes it more watchable. The acting is fine though none of the cast stand out. If you liked the first then you should enjoy this one too.

A young teacher's life gets turned upside down when she inherits her grandmother's cute but mischievous pug named Patrick. If your expectations are not that high or if you just want some easy entertainment, some laughs (predictable ones but overall not that bad) then Patrick might be a movie for you. The entire movie is a feelgood family movie, not much of a story going on except the easy cheesy moments you usually have with these kind of movies. I did enjoy it but then again I love dogs so I can't really complain. But to be realistic it's a movie fine to watch once on a rainy Sunday with the whole family but that's about it. The acting is passable, nothing great but nothing cringing either. Could it have been better? Certainly but for dog lovers it will do the job.

Colonel Hyde, a bitter former military officer, decides to rob a bank and recruits a number of ex-army men to join in on the scheme. Hyde meticulously plans the heist, with preliminary missions resulting in tense and ridiculous situations, including a quest for much-needed explosives. Can Hyde and his cohorts pull off the big robbery and get away with it? This is a fantastic heist movie that really rises above the ante of its genre due to the motivations behind the main characters. Apparently it was also the inspiration to the real-life Great Train Robbery!! It's a mark of the movie's whimsical success that the viewer is made to sympathise with what is basically a gang of upper-class soldiers resorting to criminality. The wit, camaraderie and very subtle pathos of the ex-soldiers is very well worked - adrift as they are in peacetime, the planned heist provides some scope for their talents. The acting from the whole cast is superb and there's even a small cameo from Oliver Reed as a homosexual chorus boy! Nigel Patrick and Bryan Forbes are particularly good as the more suave members of the heist team. One problem though is that we never get to know the characters really well. Overall, a superb caper movie that is well worth watching.
