Finding Graceland
A young man Byron who is directionless after causing the death of his wife picks up an eccentric drifter on his way back to Graceland who says he is Elvis Presley. He doesn't look like Elvis but knows things that only Elvis knows, and even wears the same shoe size as Elvis. This road trip movie is a wonder to see with Harvey Keitel giving a tremendous performance as the King of Rock n Roll. When Keitel announces that he is Elvis, you suspect that he is delusional but, before the movie ends he will convince you that what you think you know is not necessarily the way things are. Little known to Byron, Elvis has a hidden agenda, and at every turn produces magic from all those who surround him. Bridget Fonda enters as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator, and she and Byron both pursue the enigma of Elvis, all the way to the real Graceland. In the end, it is the journey, not the destination that matters and Byron gets the closure he wants to move on with his life. The moral of the tale is help can come from unexpected places. Wonderful scenery, a classy car, excellent performances and a quirky plot make this a worthwhile movie to watch.

Another WolfCop
Alcoholic werewolf cop Lou Garou springs into action when an eccentric businessman with evil intentions seduces Woodhaven's residents with a new brewery and hockey team in this outrageous horror-comedy sequel. Although not as good as the first movie, there is plenty of laughs and tons of gore to be had. The weird factor is up slightly, with the inclusion of an alien-type clone that bursts out of a person's stomach after they've drunk some dodgy beer. So what if it's all totally absurd - that's the beauty of WolfCop. Anything goes!! I liked seeing Kevin Smith in a bit part role. This will not be a movie that's meant for everyone and that should be obvious from the title alone. But gorehounds, horror fans and those who love a slightly goofy flick with a different take on what it takes to make a monster will enjoy it.

Royal Flash
The cowardly English soldier Captain Harry Flashman is kidnapped by Otto von Bismarck and forced to impersonate the king of a small country. This is such a fun and zany comedy directed brilliantly by Richard Lester. The story is a pastiche of the Prisoner of Zenda. What makes Flashman such a great character is that in the eyes of the general public he's a hero but in reality he is a lecherous coward. Malcolm McDowell is a perfect fit for Flashman although many have complained that he's not beefy enough to play the character. You're guaranteed to laugh at his misadventures. The movie has a good cast which includes Oliver Reed as the humourless von Bismarck, Lionel Jeffries as his henchman with a metallic hand and small cameos from Bob Hoskins and David Jason. Park yourself in a seat and enjoy this swashbuckling comedy romp. If you approach it in the right frame of mind you'll have a grand old time.

Wildling
A young girl is raised in captivity residing in a remote woodland cabin. She is discovered and must adjust to modern culture whilst on a journey of self-discovery. This movie has a promising start but the story starts falling apart quickly with some unecessary cheesy teenage romantic moments. At times, you could also connect the story to the one of Raw, the French movie from 2016. I would advise you to see that one since it is better than Wildling. The acting is quite decent with Bel Powley doing a good job of portraying someone with animalistic characteristics and equally as a child stepping into a young adult's world for the first time. If you are looking for a horror slasher gory monster movie then this really isn't it although there are some scenes of gore and violence its really more of a tangled love story about a girl finding her belonging in the world she finds herself thrust into. It's a shame this movie got so predictable by the end.

Commander Hamilton
The Commander Hamilton of this movie is often referred by some people as being the Swedish James Bond. Hamilton and his team are recruited by a CIA operative Texas Slim to track some smugglers trying to take a stolen Soviet nuclear missile into Sweden. Hamilton and his team are given the order to stop the smugglers and leave no loose ends. I wasn't that impressed with this Swedish movie. I expected an all-out action storyline from the beginning and although it does have some good action sequences it has too many talky bits. The main lead Peter Stormare was too wooden in his acting for my liking with his single expression face. Mark Hamill as the villain showed more emotion than Stormare although his dialog was terrible. So on the whole, I can't really recommend this movie at all due to it being so dull and uninteresting.

84 Charing Cross Road
Seeking a rare book, Helen, a New Yorker contacts a store in England and is delighted to find the book she is looking for. The owner sends it to her, cheap. She continues using the store as her new hunting grounds, contacting the owner frequently in pursuit of new rarities. Eventually the two form a friendship through their letters. This movie is apparently based on a true story about two people that never meet. On paper it may not sound like great source material for dramatic cinema and credit must be given that this movie keeps the viewers' interest as much as it does. I think a lot of that has to come down to it's 2 stars in Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins who are excellent in their roles. The story between the two blossoms into a chronicle of a beautiful little relationship that leaves a lasting imprint on not just them but all the other people in their lives. This movie in all honesty will be appreciated more by book lovers and quiet movies.

The Final Test
Jack Warner is England cricketer Sam Palmer who is about to play his final test against Australia at The Oval. He desperately wants to do well and score many runs on his last appearance. He's invited his family to watch him play namely his sister and his young son who would rather write poetry than watch cricket. In case you're wondering this isn't really a sports comedy but more about the strained relationship between father and son and how they eventually reconcile with each other. Jack Warner is great but it's Robert Morley that lights up the movie in the second half when his character of a poet by the name of Alexander Whitehead gets involved with both Sam and his son. His antics in the Palmer household when he nearly wrecks their living room by practicing cricket strokes with a poker is funny to watch. I found this movie so enjoyable with great performances from the whole cast.

The Dark Man
A young female actress Molly Lester out cycling witnesses a ruthless criminal clothed in black commit his second murder but in doing so finds her own life in danger after the murderer sees her picture on a stage poster. Molly's boyfriend, Detective Inspector Viner starts searching for any clues in order to apprehend the suspect. This is a brisk b-movie which was shot in and around Hastings. The movie is light on plot and mystery but heavy on near-death scrapes and chases as the police and the murderer attempt to outwit each other. The most notable star here is future Dr Who William Hartnell as a gruff police superintendent. Maxwell Reed pulls in a menacing performance as the Dark Man of the title who stalks Molly. The tension mounts when he finds Molly's flat, takes the lights out and wait until she returns. When she does, he knocks her unconscious and tries to fake her death by suicide with gas. There's a great climax on an army firing range and on a beach in darkness as the net closes in on the killer. It may not be a memorable movie but it's effective as a dark and broody thriller.

Intent to Kill
A President of an unnamed South American country comes to a hospital to have a delicate brain operation. The opposition party to the President send a trio of assassins to murder him. Even though this is a British movie, it's set in snowy Montreal, Canada. It's a good suspense movie which is headed by Richard Todd as a doctor trying to find out how a patient has died after a slipped disk operation and then making an assumption that he was murdered. The assassins botched the job up due to the President asking for his room to be switched and the wrong man was killed instead. Apart from Todd, Herbert Lom is also great as the South American President. The movie works well because the writing is good and debutant director Jack Cardiff does a nice job of keeping the tension mounting. It all ends up in a big shootout at the hospital as the assassins try one more time in finishing the job they're supposed to do. It's an entertaining movie with some nice twists.

This great movie is about Queen Anne who reigned over Britain in the early 1700's. As the movie opens, Anne is in a frail condition, while her closest confidante, Sarah, seems to be directing most of Britain's business. Then arrives Abigail, Sarah's cousin, desperately looking for a job. She gets a low-level job but it isn't long before she manages to start treating the Queen's leg sores, and before we known it, Sarah and Abigail are in a fight for the Queen's graces. This is the latest movie from director Yorgos Lanthimos. I loved The Lobster and this is another "off center" movie. This time a historical piece based on more-or-less true events that took place. This is a movie that belongs to all three of the main stars: Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, and Emma Stone. Colman hits the points of carrying a lot of nobility and worsening mental state as the Queen. She is absolutely wonderful with a performance that deserves all the accolades. Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone are also brilliant in their roles as the cousins trying their best to be the Queen's favourite. This movie won't be for everybody. I personally liked it enough to say that it works more as a dark comedy than a historical retelling. All in all, a well-made and acted movie and another triumph for Yorgos Lanthimos.

One Cut of the Dead
Attempting to film a new zombie movie, the cast and crew find themselves attacked by a horde of ravenous flesh-eating creatures which interrupts the shooting schedule of their production and forces them to actually have to defend themselves from the undead ravaging the set. This is a refreshing new take on the zombie genre and a movie of 2 halves. The first half is all about the scenario outlined above but the second half took me by surprise as it's actually all about the shooting of the movie. It's basically a movie within a movie. It's about the backstage exploits of the industry, filled with egotistical actors stuck in roles they don't want to be in, stressed-out stage-hands constantly trying to appease their bosses and the on-the-fly guerrilla tactics that must be employed to ensure the shoot goes off smoothly. You'll laugh by looking at the creation of the film that has plenty to enjoy about it commenting on the rushed nature of filmmaking and how creative individuals must sacrifice their vision to make content for studio execs who only see how much money it'll make. Overall, this is an endlessly fun and wildly entertaining horror comedy about how the low budget movie industry works.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody
What a fantastic movie this is. This incredible story takes us on the journey of one of the most iconic rock bands of all time and gives us a look at not only the birth and life of the band but a peek behind the curtain into the life of one of music's biggest legends and Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury. From their humble beginnings playing college shows to their historic performance at 1985's Live Aid concert, Bohemian Rhapsody will take you on one hell of a rock n' roll ride. Rami Malek takes on the role of Freddie Mercury with all the charm and swagger that the real man gave off. Never one to be ignored or denied, Malek's Mercury is cocky and charming and just captivating to watch. Even through Freddie's highest highs and lowest lows he gives a fantastic performance. While many would like the sole focus of this film to be Freddie Mercury you can't leave out the rest of the band because, let's face it, with them there is no Queen. Freddie's bandmates bring a lot to this picture from the sarcastic and at times confrontational Roger Taylor to the band's voice of reason Brian May to the quiet talent of John Deacon. Bohemian Rhapsody is an entertaining, fun, funny, and at times the heartbreaking movie that definitely deserves your attention. Fans of Queen should breathe a sigh of relief because this is a solid movie. I absolutely loved it. Highly recommended.

Kamen Rider Build the Movie: Be the One
Set in an alternative universe and after a civil war has split Japan, 3 governors try to unify the country, however, they are secretly members of the alien species Evolt known as The Blood Tribe who have plans to take over the planet. They manage to control the local population to turn them against the Kamen Riders. On the run, Sento Kiryu aka Kamen Rider Build must stop The Blood Tribe in succeeding in their plan to conquer the Earth. I haven't seen a decent Kamen Rider movie in years so I thought I'd give this a shot. I haven't watched the Kamen Rider Build series (it's been praised highly by tokusatsu fans) but if it's anything like this movie I don't think I've missed out on that much. The plot is generic and poorly written. The fight choreography isn't that good and as for the special effects that's an entirely different matter altogether - it's that bad. I did like the costume for Build which reminded me of Kamen Rider W (2 different colours for each side of the body). To be honest there isn't that much I liked about this movie though seeing ex-SKE48 idol Rena Matsui as one of the Blood Tribe was great. I was very disappointed with it all.

Cast a Dark Shadow
A young man who has married a rich old lady for her money bumps her off one night in what is seen by the police as suicide. Soon he is after another wealthy widow but even though she's in love with him and marries him, she has his number and he can't get his way with her money. This is a thoroughly engaging noir movie with a twisted plot line. It's got everything working in it from the direction, cinematography, the script and superb performances from the cast. Although Dirk Bogarde is excellent as the scheming killer, it's Margaret Lockwood that's the star in this movie as she was nearing the end of her career. Her character Freda is quick on the uptake and never at a loss for words. The story moves along rapidly and is filled with twists and turns and though it falls apart at the end, that doesn't take away from the fun of everything that's preceded it. Fans of noir movies will enjoy it.
