Crooner Max Bygraves stars as a young singer who rises to the top of his profession on the stage. All seems well for the young man but he finds the entourage that leeches off him and the audience who change their support for a performer when they don't do well a bit of an annoyance.
This is a half-hearted rags to riches musical of a young man who finds that getting famous isn't all what it's cracked up to be. It's not the fault of Max Bygraves who performs adequately as the lead character but the script itself. The tunes that are performed are OK. It makes for a decent 90 or so mins but there's nothing memorable about this movie at all.

Three old women run away from a nursing home in London, get rescued in the sea by a Russian steamer and find themselves on a small island off the coast of Ireland where they pass themselves as nieces of the owner of a small cottage who has been presumed drowned after falling off a cliff. The local village rallies around the old ladies, especially after the start a cottage industry for the beautiful sweaters the townswomen knit from wool from local sheep.
A far-fetched but delightful comedy which has a trio of great actresses in the leading roles in Sybil Thorndike, Kathleen Harrison and Estelle Winwood. They are such a likable bunch and you can't help but warm to them. There are several musical numbers scattered throughout this movie, especially a rousing title song sung in Holloway's house when the women move in and invite everybody over for a tea party. While the plot is basically a series of vignettes surrounding the women's escape and their adventures, it is so completely charming that you don't notice really that there is not a linear story. This movie is no classic but it's agreeable entertainment that gives the leading ladies all moments to shine, plus a very early appearance by Richard Harris.

This movie might sound like a horror movie but it turns out to be your usual routine court-based crime thriller, in which a man is sentenced to death only to call down an ancient curse on the men sentencing him. While a journalist begins to investigate the circumstances surrounding the initial crime, others begin to die, raising the question as to whether the curse is coming true.
If this all sounds rather half-hearted, that's because it is. The movie is routinely plotted and directed, never rising above a level of mildly watchable tedium. Certainly it lacks the kind of suspense that you'd expect from the story and the solution to the mystery, when it is finally revealed, is strictly predictable. Lee Patterson is rather bland as the leading man although you do get to see Michael Hordern as a judge. Not worth checking out to be honest.

A small detachment of soldiers is parachuted into the depths of one of the villages of France, which has a church with a radio tower, which must be destroyed in order for German anti-aircraft guns to not bring down allied air support before D-Day. The squad is led by Corporal Ford. Almost all of the squad are killed except a few that have survived which includes a rookie by the name of Boyce. Below the church in the village lie much more terrible things than just German soldiers.
This movie has the perfect blend of WWII action, zombies and gore. At times it's like you're watching the old Wolfenstein PC game. I loved the way that the story was told in this movie because it was really nerve-wrecking and intense. It had the ingredients of both a war movie and a supernatural thriller with a hint of horror to it. The sets, costumes and props used throughout the movie was really good, because it really felt like you where there in the action, in a French village during World War II. There definitely was a great feel of authenticity to it. The special effects and make-up in the movie was great which definitely helped to bring the movie alive and make it believable on the screen. Good acting by the cast as well. I really enjoyed this action-packed and adrenaline-filled movie.

In the Pacific Northwest in 1983, outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a trippy journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with deadly fire.
Since seeing this movie I still can't fully process what I just watched, and that is saying something from someone who watches a lot of movies. The story follows a simple revenge ark in a way that has not been done until now, which I must say is very much enjoyable. It starts slow which felt like a drag but once the second act happens then it finally finds footing. The third act the pace skyrockets in comparison to its first hour leaving you with a great ending, equally as confusing. This movie is not for everyone, it wasn't really my type either, but I can appreciate the movie for it's ambitious visuals and performances. It's an artsy movie with the perfect blend of violence featuring Nicolas Cage in a drugged up insanity. Give it a try and see what you think.

A composer stuck in a middle-class marriage finds that his affair with his wife's half-sister has resulted in her pregnancy. When his wife refuses to give him a divorce he hatches a murder scheme that is too clever by half.
This is one of those intriguing, long-forgotten British thrillers that's well worth a watch for modern audiences. A good story, well directed with an impressive cast, especially Laurence Payne as philandering songwriter Norman and the ever-reliable John Arnatt as the police inspector. There's a neat twist at the end which comes as completely unexpected and that is something all too rare for a large number of movies from this area of British filmmaking. Watch out for Dudley Moore in an uncredited role as a pianist. Overall, it's a gripping movie from start to finish.

A beautiful young angel is sent down to Earth with her harp and has to beneficially affect the lives of the people she comes in contact with before she can return back to Heaven.
This is a charming movie with a stunning leading lady in the form of Diane Cilento. She is just perfect as the angel. Innocent and wise at the same time. The way she touches the lives of the people she meets in Islington, London is wonderful. Combining ingenuity and sentiment, fantasy and realism, it is a consistently entertaining and often moving story. The rest of the cast which includes a young Alfie Bass perform commendably. This movie was a pleasant surprise, full of wonderful character actors and good humour. Delightful.

Truckers, led by Rubber Duck are fed up of being harassed by vindictive traffic cop Lyle Wallace. After a fight breaks out between the truckers and the police (started by Wallace's bullying tactics), the truckers flee towards New Mexico. What starts out as a few trucks turns into a giant convoy and soon the chase becomes a media event and a political tool for votes.
Based on the country song of same title by C.W. McCall, and directed by Sam Peckinpah, Convoy became, surprisingly to most in the industry, a hugely popular movie. Containing no plot of any substance, it does however have an enormous sense of fun and features some nice Peckinpah flourishes. Huge trucks tearing across the landscape surprisingly makes for easy on the eye cinema along with slow motion car crashes. Kris Kristofferson plays Rubber Duck and it's a great bit of casting, Ernest Borgnine suitably steps into Sheriff Wallace's big trousers and Burt Young is dead on entertaining as Pig Pen. Convoy is a fun movie about trucks going fast and creating mayhem.

Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.
The latest offering from the MCU is mediocre at best. Brie Larson's acting is wooden as the title character. There were some fun action scenes and the chemistry between Captain Marvel and Nick Fury were good. The CGI used to de-age Samuel Jackson and Clark Gregg were flawless. The first act was probably the best part of the movie. Everything after that goes downhill though I did enjoy the 90's soundtrack. I was hoping for more but didn't get it.

This is a drama/comedy biopic of World Wrestling Entertainment's Paige's journey to becoming a wrestling celebrity and her family who are all wrestlers based in Norwich. Some scenes have been created just for this movie and never took place in her life such as Paige and her brother meeting The Rock at a WWE live event in the UK. It shows Paige's struggles as she's selected to go to the WWE's NXT developmental camp in Florida and the self doubts she has to overcome in order to believe that she has what it takes to make it a wrestler in the US. The movie ends on her debut on Monday Night Raw where she won the WWE Divas belt. Florence Pugh does a fantastic job as Paige but the rest of the cast are great as well with Game of Thrones' Lena Headey playing her mother and Nick Frost as her father. The Rock doesn't have a huge role in the movie. This movie definitely deserves more appreciation for its entertainment factor. It's funny and truly heartwarming.

Jennifer Hills is back but with a new name as she now calls herself Angela. She joins a therapy group for rape victims and makes friends with a bad ass woman named Marla. After Marla is raped and murdered, Angela goes over the edge and seeks grisly revenge against her murderer but that's not enough for her. After hearing more heinous crimes against other members of the group, she goes after their perpetrators as well.
This 2nd sequel isn't as good as the previous movies as it's more of a Death Wish type movie. While the first movie was all about abuse and vengeance and crime and punishment, the 3rd aims to be a lot deeper and more philosophical. Angela finds herself having to lie and hide in order to do what she defines as right, while her rage and frustration threaten to claim the lives not only of those guilty, but of others as well. It makes you wonder who the real monster of the movie is. There are a couple of nasty graphic death scenes on display. Sarah Butler is great as the returning Jennifer Hills along with Jennifer Landon as the neurotic Marla. Overall, a decent enough sequel.

Professional rock climber Alex Honnold attempts to conquer the first free solo climb of famed El Capitan's 900-metre vertical rock face at Yosemite National Park.
This is an incredible documentary. It takes you inside the mind and life of one of the world's best rock climbers. The visuals are incredible. It gives a very pleasant feeling when you see the gorgeous views of Yosemite. You get to feel a bit what it is like to climb what to most of us would be a blank vertical wall rock wall overlooking heaven. It's just mind-blowing how dangerous and hard what Alex was trying to achieve here. The pace of the movie is nice, and it gains more and more suspense over time. When you watch Alex actually climbing El Capitan free solo, you're on the edge of your seat. You see how small the holds are and the feeling of excitement and anxiety overwhelms you. Even though you know the outcome of Alex's climb, it is still a brilliant documentary to watch.

At London Airport (now Heathrow), a variety of staff and passengers pass each other, their various stories are told here ย some intertwined some separate. Two passengers passing through meet briefly and develop a bond that seems due to be broken, an ex-pilot tries to pass his medical and get his wings back while another has to make a decision when faced with temptation.
This is an ensemble movie by Ealing Studios that has several characters whose stories overlap around one theme (in this case the airport). However it doesn't really manage to pull this off to any great degree and it struggles to really paint an overall picture that engages. The main part of the plot is the romantic meeting between two passengers; this doesn't work for several reasons. Firstly, the plotting of it is strained and I never really bought into it. Secondly the performances from the two actors involved are so poor that the material can't survive past that. The overall acting from the rest of the cast which features James Robertson Justice and a blink and you'll miss it cameo by Sid James is fine. Overall it was a good try by Ealing which had potential but it just didn't work out for them here.
