In the coal mines of Pennsylvania during 1876, embittered miners have started a campaign of sabotage to retaliate against the owners' cruelty. James McParlan is the undercover detective who joins the gang to expose them led by grizzled chief Jack Kehoe.
A fantastic true life story about an Irish 19th century secret society who fought for better conditions for coal miners, using even terrorist acts to further their cause. It's an exciting and thought-provoking story of unions, treason and plenty of interesting drama, emotion and a strong antagonism between the bosses and mine-workers. This long forgotten movie which flopped at the box office packs nice acting, vivid settings, evocative atmosphere, though it is hurt by overlong scenes and a depressing finale. Excellent acting by the cast led by Sean Connery and Richard Harris along with Frank Finlay. All in all, a brilliant historical drama and one I enjoyed watching.

Three siblings suffer from a condition that causes them to behave in a childlike manner. The butler does his best to conceal their truth but he faces a challenge when relatives show up at their door.
From it's fun opening title sequence to its creepy ending, this movie is a joy to watch. It is a dark and sometimes comic tale of a rich family suffering from a rare disease that causes its victims to regress mentally to raging cannibals. The way all the weird family members play off each other is a funny to watch. The sisters are among the sexiest and creepiest characters I've ever seen in a horror movie. All of the cast look like they're having a blast with their roles. The story is well paced and climaxes excellently with a crescendo of absurdist terror. This is a movie so freaky, you have to see it to believe it!

A man who has lost nearly everything thanks to his prized cock losing a fight sells his family's farm in order to buy more chickens and begin a partnership with a man that will take them all the way to the cockfighting championships.
This controversial movie will win no favours with the animal rights crowd as it does feature actual cocks killing each other in fights and has a nasty scene of a man taking an axe and cutting a head off on one bird. This movie didn't really do anything for me and the cockfighting scenes were disturbing. Seeing a crowd baying for blood in these scenes is unreal. The plot is basically one man trying to rebuild his cockfighting career. I just felt it was boring and dull. The acting from the cast wasn't that great either. Definitely do NOT watch if you're an animal lover.

A prank goes terribly wrong and a demon is unleashed upon an all-girls school.
This Malaysian horror movie (I'm not sure but it could be the 1st Malaysian movie I've seen?) is nicely shot with satisfying gory, blood filled moments that send chills up your spine where it mattered, even though the ending is nothing mysterious or anything short of the expected. It's sometimes fun and at times parodying the horror genre. The only gripe I have is it does take it's time before the gore starts splattering around. I like the look of the demon. A dark figure, humanoid, with insect-like face and big sharp teeth that likes to rip throats out. The young cast all do a decent job. A good effort all round and a very satisfying Asian horror.

A TV company boss takes his crew to an old log cabin deep in the woods so they can experience what contestants on a new reality TV show will get. While scouting out the area around the cabin, two of the team find an abandoned tent and a body of a dead women in a lake. They decide to keep quiet about this and head back to the cabin. As night falls, things become even creepier.
This Norwegian horror is OK and I'm quite surprised it's highly rated in it's home country. It does a fairly good job trying to copy some aspects of Blair Witch, but in the end it's just a movie with nothing special about it at all. There is enough suspense in it but the actors can't contribute any depth to the story. Most of the story takes place at night, but you can still see some dayscenes from the beautiful Norwegian nature. If you are a hardcore horror fan like myself, you might find a bit too bloodless for your liking and not at all frightening. Average.

aka Caged Terror. An office worker named Richard decides to invite his co-worker Janet to go on a camping trip with him to a secluded forest, and she accepts his offer. They make their way through a forest to a cabin hut where they intend to stay the night but then 2 troublemakers arrive and proceed to torture the couple.
This Canadian indie production has been labelled as one of the worst movies you'll ever get to see and I have to agree on that. It's also totally pointless. For most of the running time, it's just the couple walking through nature and talking shit complete with crappy folk music. For those who can last the pace, there's finally a bit of excitement in the final 25 mins as the bloke is tied up in the chicken coop by a couple of hoodlums intent on having their way with his girl. If you're expecting a pay off with the man escaping and exacting his revenge then I'm sorry to disappoint but that doesn't happen at all. One of the most tedious movies I've ever had the misfortune of watching. Whatever you do, do not watch this crapfest....EVER!!!

Vincent Smith and his sister Ida run a rural hotel, but they earn most of their cash operating a food stand that specialises in world-famous sausages. After years of success, however, the duo's upstanding brother, Sheriff Bruce, eventually discovers the grotesque details of his siblings' booming business: Vincent and Ida are actually plumping up their hotel patrons, killing and dismembering them and then grinding them into frankfurters.
It's taken me a long time to get around to watching Motel Hell. While not a great horror movie it does contain enough suspense, scares and general creepiness to keep one satisfied. Motel Hell is also peppered with some truly kooky characters which make the movie more interesting to watch. The problem with many horror movies is that they seem to forget that they need to build to a climax so once the bulk of the movie is done they need to hurry to a finish and this one is no different. The movie's ending is quite enjoyable and contains a nice dueling chainsaw battle scene. Overall this is a fun little movie. Despite it's flaws, if you are a fan of quirky dark comedies this is perfect for you.

Richard Dadier is a new teacher at North Manual Trades High School, an inner-city school of diverse ethnic backgrounds where many of the pupils, led by student Gregory Miller, frequently engage in anti-social behavior. Dadier makes various attempts to engage the students' interest in education, challenging both the school staff and the pupils. He is subjected to violence as well as other schemes to unsettle him.
This hard hitting movie has lost none of it's edge over the years. It's a depressing yet important attack on juvenile delinquents set in the backdrop of an American high school. The violence the viewer sees is harsh and poignant and is given added impact because we know that these problems not only existed back then, but is rife even today with sometimes tragic results. Glenn Ford does a sterling job of portraying the main teacher of the piece, he is a likable character so when the viewer see him struggle and fight back as best he can, we are firmly on his side. Vic Morrow is also great as Artie West, a sulking brooding nasty piece of work that is every teacher's worst nightmare. Nice to hear Bill Haley's Rock Around The Clock as well. Over the years there's been many movies with a similar story but this is the original that started it off and it's really well worth watching.

After the death of his wife, wealthy retiree Justin Playfair creates a fantasy world for himself in which he is the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, even dressing like the character. Out of concern for Justin's money more than his health, his brother Blevins puts him under the care of psychiatrist Dr. Mildred Watson. As Dr. Watson grows fond of Justin, she begins to play along with his theories, eventually becoming an assistant in his investigations.
This strange but intelligent, utterly charming movie died a quick death at the 1971 box office, but has found a cult following of sorts over the years. George C. Scott, with briar pipe and deerstalker hat, is virtual perfection in the role of the man who believes he is Holmes, while Joanne Woodward, devoid of her usual glamour, playing the socially awkward psychiatrist who starts to gradually believe in his cause, brings a warmth and touching vulnerability to her role. The movie's final scene will undoubtedly baffle many viewers because of its ambiguity. It's a moment that is clearly open to interpretation. A wonderful underrated movie.

A psychotic murderer searches for his next victim, a TV newswoman who survived an earlier attack, in a big-city hospital.
This movie about a killer stalking his victim at a hospital feels like it's something that was made for TV than a cinema. The weak story at least has the great Michael Ironside as the killer who hates woman all because of an incident he watched as a child of his father being burned by hot water that his mother throw at him to keep him from getting his drunk hands all over her. For a horror movie, there is a distinct lack of gore and the pacing isn't that good either. There's a lot of boring padding with the killer skulking around corridors and failing to get near his intended victim until the inevitable final showdown in a now surprisingly deserted hospital. William Shatner pops up now and again as a TV producer but he doesn't have a lot to do. With more grisly killings and tighter pacing, this could have been a great slasher movie especially with Michael Ironside's intense performance but sadly it's only just about average at best.

Alex a convicted murderer, escapes from an asylum somewhere in England, and hides out in the home of Molly Thomas who is awaiting her missing husband's return. They're attracted to each other and she hides him in the house while the police are crawling around the area looking for him.
This movie is a combination of a prison escape and a whodunnit. There are some surprises, and all the excitement is in the last 20 minutes. Good acting from the main pairing of Joanne Woodward and Stuart Whitman. Look out for TV Batman's butler Alfred in the form of Alan Napier who has a small role and also Knight Rider's Edward Mulhare as a doctor. A good watch overall.

A dedicated scientist, aided by his clueless wife, rolls up his shirt sleeves and tries to save the world from a radioactive monster, curious space aliens, an evil scientist and a crabby skeleton.
A very funny parody of bad movies from the 1950's made by a director who had done his homework on the subject. It's as though the director has seen every bad movie every made and crammed them all into this one movie. He doesn't go for cheap laughs like technical screwups, it's actually the equivalent of a relatively well made grade z horror movie. It plays it all straight, although the movie will occasionally go ahead and throw in a laugh that's a little too smart for this type of movie. The cast all contribute to making this movie work so well. I really liked Jennifer Blaire as Animala. Give this fun movie a go and embrace it's silliness!

A sword is discovered with a metal not found on Earth that can slice through rock easily. As a result, a retired and disgraced former soldier is dispatched along with an eager young swordsman to find the source of the metal and obtain it for their lord. Meanwhile, three female aliens from another planet are searching the region for the Makaraga, a destructive biological weapon banned from their homeland.
This is an entertaining movie that successfully blends together the samurai, fantasy and sci-fi genres. It feels very much like a 80's retro-piece with a lot of silly effects and of course, loads of gore and blood splatter. It gets even better when the beast/weapon gets loose. You see it has a certain habit that involves eating it's opponents! Director Keita Amemiya does a good job with the action and gore and it's all just fun to watch. Creature effects are surprisingly good, combining CGI and a designed prop for close-up use. This should not be taken as a serious movie or as a highly intellectual movie. Those that do take it as such will definitely hate it.

In 1940, at the beginning of World War II, Soviet soldiers conduct a mass execution of captured Polish officers. With Hitler's forces rapidly advancing into Eastern Europe, a surviving Polish officer, Lt. Jerzy, at great risk to his own life, chooses to stay behind with his wife, Anna. As the Germans round up Lt. Jerzy and other officers, propaganda efforts cover up the truth about the Soviet soldiers' shocking brutality.
A well done and shocking movie speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves and would be gladly considered never existing by some. Although it's difficult to credibly and adequately convey the horror of such a murder which became a life tragedy for many Polish families and undoubtedly affected the way Poland looked after the war, I think the director made a good job. Especially so, that it happened to be his personal tragedy as well with his father being executed. Despite that, the movie is well-balanced with emotions and atmosphere. Modest colours and anxious music by Penderecki emphasise the horror of those who were waiting. Short cuts of brutal scenes of murder left me speechless. It's hard to comprehend that human beings could do such things to each other. For those wanting a history lesson about one of Poland's darkest days, this movie is difficult to watch at times.

Following their breakout success in England, flagship punk rock band the Sex Pistols venture out on their first U.S. tour. Temperamental bassist Sid Vicious takes his troubled girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, along for the ride. Along the way, the couple's turbulent relationship strains the patience of bandmate Johnny Rotten and manager Malcolm McLaren, while plunging Sid and Nancy into the depths of drug addiction and co-dependency.
This movie was a reality flash into the lives of rock star Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. Despite the harsh reality brought to life by a strong performance by Gary Oldman, the movie was extremely dull and ultimately boring. The movie was a compilation of drugs scenes strung together by what could possibly be the trashiest "love story" on the face of the planet. The movie is full of the most repugnant people you'll ever come across. Sid and Nancy are seen as idiotic and in Nancy's case annoying and whiny. By the end you won't really care what's happens to either of them...I didn't anyway. This movie was a load of crap.
